Guest Cites Fox's Fictional "24" as Evidence that Terrorists are "Out There"
Reported by Melanie - January 17, 2007 - 122 comments
Former New York City police detective Bo Dietl was Neil Cavuto's guest today (January 17, 2007) on Your World. Dietl appeared along with Imam Hassan Al-Qazwini, of the Islamic Center of America, to discuss a January 7 incident in which Northwest Airlines prohibited a group of 40 Muslims from boarding a plane in Germany, after a pilgrimage to the Hajj, on their return trip to Detroit. The group said that Northwest's action was discriminatory and threatened to launch a boycott, whereupon Northwest apologized and agreed to pay for any expenses incurred as a result of the "snafu."

At one point Cavuto turned to Dietl and said, "Bo, you have a problem with Northwest apologizing, right?" to which Dietl responded:

No, I have a problem because things have changed, Hassan. We have to look at -- a bunch of Irish guys are not going to get on the plane now and blow themselves up or put themselves into buildings. The fact of the matter is, I mean, you don't watch '24?' On Fox TV? They're out there. They're out there. There are cells out there. We have to protect ourselves against them as Americans.
Comment: Either Dietl is a hack, shamelessly promoting a Fox television show; he's as ignorant as he appears, or both. Whatever happened, Cavuto, being a "journalist" and all, had an obligation to tell his audience that what appears on "24" is fictional, which he didn't do. Also, what a "coincidence" this is. Last night Keith Olbermann aired a segment with Robert Greenwald, the producer of Outfoxed, titled: "Fox Scaring You Into Watching '24?'". Maybe this is Rupert Murdoch's bullyboy way of telling both Olbermann and Greenwald to f**k off.

Yes Spitty I had heard of this fictional program being presented as fact. Oh well.... that is just one of many examples.

It just gives Glenn Beck more ammunition to scare middle america with, it reminds of when "the Davinci Code" came out and Churches had to hold special masses to debunk the movie, THE MOVIE WAS FICTION, BASED ON A FICTIONAL NOVEL.

Remember the made for TV movie "The Day After". It was televised in the mid 80s during Reagan's Presidency. It told of a nuclear strike by the Warsaw pact on the US. Scared the hell out of half the populace and was quite controversial in it's message.

I have tried to block Reagan out, but yes I do remember the show.

It is particularly sad that certain people in this country cannot view television programs as entertainment. And we wonder why?...oh never mind.

WOLVERINES!!!!

Oh wait- that was another one at just the right moment.

What about the completely changed "Sum of All Fears," from Arab terrorists to Fascist Europeans? The nuke at an NFL game in Baltimore was right after 9/11.

Fictional?!? Not TV?!?!? You mean there isn't a starship Enterprise out there? What does President Santos and former President Bartlett have to say about that? Next your going to say something foolish like Galactica and her rag tag fleet won't find earth.

Let's not forget "Snakes on a Plane" which is a terrorism metaphor. Terrorism has always been around, just in the past 5 years under this administarion it has been packaged and marketed to get us to give up control.

That's a great way to put it. I watched a little of "24" and in a span of a few minutes I saw 2 torture scenes, a gruesome murder and a violent fight. What better way to condition Americans to violence than to keep showing as a "natural" part of the world and that everybody is spying, murdering, blowing up buildings or some other dastardly act. It is fiction presented to make people think it is real. You notice that you don't see any movies of Iraq and the people there being blown apart. That would be making the real world fiction!
