Well, if there was ever a plan doomed to failure it's this "National ID" plan.

Read Revelations. This is foretold
This will be implanted in newborns in order to "protect children" in the event they are kidnapped. Some very rich people are already doing this

Will the ID card give the government access to more information on individuals than it already has?
I was stunned when I applied for SS at the amount of information they had on me. A lot of which I didn't even have. They knew the day, place, time, when I got married. Same on divorce. Same on second marriage; day, time, place of my husband's death. Where I was living; I expected my work history, but even the last two days I worked as a fill-in after I retired. And, they asked me why I had gone back and worked those two days. Anything else they find out about us is going to be a whole lot more personal. It's scary.

The same people who have no problem with the Patriot Act, vehemently oppose a National ID…What’s up with that?

I don't like the Patriot Act or this National ID crap because it shows a blatant disregard for our constitutional rights, and I really don't want to end up in a police state.

Sorry my friend, but if you're referring to the "mark of the beast" I have to disagree here. The reason I disagree is that the decision between serving God and serving Satan is a consious decision made by each individual. Newborns are not able to make that decision, so marking them would serve no purpose.
Now if you mean only that it could lead to something like a GPS or tracking system for everyone then you could be right. Such a system could be used for tracking people down who make the decision to serve God after the anti-Christ takes the throne, but unless they surgically implant these things somewhere it's impossible to get to without causing serious damage, like in the brain (which I seriously doubt) it should be a relatively easy thing to have one removed.

Temporary -vs.- Permanent is the issue for me. The Patriot Act has always been put out there as a temporary solution to what we're hoping is a temporary problem; just as such programs were implemented during WWII. Yeah they could use it to screw over us to a degree but only for a given period of time.
But the National ID is something they want to put in place permanently. I see it as just one more means for all the crooks in either party or anyone else like the UN to screw us over forever and ever and ever.
Does that make sense?

I can see your point…but…The “War on Terror” could go on for decades, or some could claim a threat will still exist. The Patriot Act could easily become permanent. Precedence has been set. To stay on topic, If the powers that be, can convince 51% of the populace that a real and present danger exists, the Patriot Act could be expanded to include a National ID, an all or nothing option.
Once we have given up a part of our liberties, it could be impossible to close the floodgates of government intervention.
I am not in favor of either the Patriot Act or a National ID, but I fear the power of the Patriot Act far more than a National ID.
The government already has a National Database of everyone via the Social Security Administration and those of us who have served in the Military.
