But the National ID is something they want to put in place permanently. I see it as just one more means for all the crooks in either party or anyone else like the UN to screw us over forever and ever and ever.

Does that make sense?
It makes perfect sense to me. And the Patriot Act will never end. Once having begun, it cannot be stopped, or it will be seen as a green light to all who want to do bad things to our country. Your great-grandkids will die under the Patriot Act
The same will be true under a national ID card. Will it be encrypted somehow? They will know where you go,and who you see. When they want you, they will know where to find you.

If we fear having the means to prove we are U.S.citizens when we go through airports and other controled areas we will be defeating the means of securing our boarders. If we want security from terriorists and illegal aliens the only secure method is if real citizens have the means to prove citizenship thus protecting our tax dollars from being thrown down the drain on illegals

There is such a thing as being chicken little and causing our boarders to remain the sive that it is today.

The first comprehensive move to end the open boarder and illegal problem inclusive with the tax bleeding and job loses to citizens needing the jobs is a national citizen id. the second is the control of the areas of the boarder that are used as conduits for smuggling what ever.

The third is deport all undesirable illegals and institute a job program with real benefit for our country.

Some things need to be thought through before jumping on the emotional band wagon.

Once we have given up a part of our liberties, it could be impossible to close the floodgates of government intervention.
I am not in favor of either the Patriot Act or a National ID, but I fear the power of the Patriot Act far more than a National ID.
The government already has a National Database of everyone via the Social Security Administration and those of us who have served in the Military.
I guess the real difference then comes down to the fact that a great deal of politics is being played with the Patriot Act and it's something both sides believe they can use to their advantage in election campaigns. The fact that they're using it as political fodder tells me that neither side will allow something like the National ID to be added to it, because they want to keep the Patriot Act more fluid, meaning it will only be temporary. This is exactly the same thing that happened during WWII.

But the problem with the National ID and the reason they'll not add it to the Patriot Act is that BOTH sides want it and they want it be permament so politics won't be able to provide oversight or balance in favor of the people on this issue.

What difference does it make whether our borders are opened or closed or whether or not we have a National ID when the most dangerous people coming into the country are being brought in by corrupt people in our government and handed whatever identification they need?
