US versus THEM on the Tigris...or the Mississippi
Being an ATHEIST I usually do not have any problems with the inner workings of the various faiths and pseudo-beliefs. They are all bullshit to me. So because I come down on Christians so hard(christians are nearer and dearer to me), I have the same attitude toward Judaism and Islam---as religions.
Of course, as a bleeding heart Liberal, I was always concerned with the treatment of the Jews at the hands of the Nazis, to say nothing of most other countries. And of course, this being America, there was unquestionable prejudice against some lone follower of Islam who deigned to move out into the hinterland.
But today I am having a problem about religion. Reading the news is most disheartening. We seem to be on the verge of a war with Islam. I would assert that a reading of history puts the lie to the 'peaceful intent' speeches of Moslems around the world. In the Seventh century Islam began conquoring by the sword---and they continued right up to 1453 with the fall of Constantinople...and beyond.
Fortuneately Islam is no smarter then Christianity was. Unfortuneately we in the west have an asshole like George Bush, who is not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, leading our defense. All he has managed to do is get everyone pissed off at us.
The problem is not one of Christianity Versus Islam, although partisans will attempt to frame the debate in those terms. No, the problems is that Religious people are stupid people. They ask their followers to believe things that simply cannot be true. So when a large part of the world's population disagrees with them, and is willing to put their disbelief to the test of arms, the problem of Christianity is not a few atheists like me but millions and millions of fanatical Moslems who believe that Mohammad was a badder ass than Christ or Moses---even though the latter two are revered by Islam.
Thus we come down to the only important question confronting the world today...do we wait for the relgious fanatics of Islam to come and get us or do we take the bull by the horns and let George Bush lead a new Crusade?
WHAT? You wouldn't let George Bush lead the charge to the men's room?
But he talks with God! So all the misfortune we are confronting today must be part of some divine plan---mustn't it? Or are George Bush and his religious ideas equally as stupid as sheik whatsisname?
I want to believe that there is a peaceful way out of the mess the Republicans got us into. But so far a leader like George Bush has only made matters worse---I mean, the days of Bill Clinton must be looking like paradise lost for most Americans---except for the millionaires and billionaires who reaped a bonanza from this president and his congress. Well, now we are all going to pay for their(and our) folly.
In 9 A.D., Quintillius Varus, one of Rome's great generals, marched his three legions into the Teutoberg Wald(forest) in Germany. The three legions were completely destroyed by the German Barbarian under the command of a former hostage of Rome, Arminius( German name of Hermann).
Months later the emperor Augustus would be found wandering the halls of the palace crying out, :Quintillius Varus, bring me back my legions."
This is now what America can be saying about George Bush. He took our military and almost single-handed he has destroyed it..and his house generals are no better. And then we have the little shit from Arizona running around with his I-wannabe-president-tongue hanging out crying for more troops.
Didn't some person long ago advocate the sending of a quarter of a million men at least? Today we have neither the will nor the resources for this sort of commitment. Our leaders have made some horrible decisions and now we will have to live with them--others will have to die with them....
meanwhile, the ghouls in Washington are gathering around a hospital room...

You call your crap "coming down hard on Christians?" By Athiest standards you are a rank amature. I have seen a few who were very knowledgeable but you son:
A) Ain't that good.
B) Ain't that smart.
Don't give up though. Everybody has to start somewhere.

I would like to hear just what you mean. The problem is not religious. The problem is that asshole bush has stirred up half of the world against us and it will be weaged in the press as a matter of religion, when it is actually a matter stupidity, the stupidity of the American president.

If the problem is not religious, why is it that every time you get the uncontrollable urge to launch another illegitimate diatribe against President Bush you include an equally illegitimate rant about Christians and/or anyone who believes in God?

Gee, you know who you sound like? Here's a hint: "The behavior of the American government has severely damaged the position of the United States in the world. No country in the world looks upon America as a friend. When the U.S. name is mentioned, usually people are reminded of war, aggression and bloodshed, and that's not a good thing." .. Iranian President Ahmadinejad
CONGRATULATIONS!! You just earned yourself the radical extremist lunatic parrot award of the day!!

To be a cleric, you have to 1) not have any cash, and 2) have control issues that you can't satisfy anyway else.
