1. Children (and other family) should be off-limits as fodder in a Presidential campaign.
2. But, simply by being related to a nominee, those family members do become public figures.
3. Whatever certain elements in the media finds about those family members, will be exploited.
4. I deplore the faux outrage that a nominee's family member is being spoken and written about in the press. She KNEW it would happen. That goes to judgment.
5. I read god knows how many threads about Obama's middle name, his family's flaws, his mother's "sluttiness," and how he's going to be the first President elected by Affirmative Action, and it makes me sick. I'm sorry if that disturbs you. However, much like your choice to go to Yahoo! for your news, you choose to read my posts. Simple, really. You're hereby invited to keep my disturbing thoughts off your radar.
You want to read that as attacking her daughter. Pardon, but it's bullshit.

Ricie, again you have let partisanship warp you. Have assholes on the right attacked Obama, yes, and have I attacked them here (though of course Obama is an adult, and Palin's kid isn't, so the offense in the latter is FAR worse than the former). That is because I put the principle above the politics. That is what I am taking issue to you with.
I don't justify those attacks, I don't say "gees there wrong, but dems the breaks", I don't laugh and say "haw, Palin's daughter is a public figure now". That is what you are doing.

It WAS funny that you call don't call her a public figure, seeing as we all know her now. Politicians, and by extension, their families, are public figures. You made the false distinction (assuming because Spears gets paid for being in the public eye and Palin's kid doesn't).
And those ARE the breaks, Tak. Something Palin should have taken into account. People are responsible for the positions we put ourselves into.

You are blaming the victim for being victimized here. If her car was stolen you would blame her for having a car in the first place. By accepting it as "oh well, she knew it would happen" you are allowing it to continue to happen and therefore must believe its ok to attack her and her children. You can pretend to yourself and to others of your ilk that you really care but what can you do all you want but unless you say enough is enough to the press and the lowlife scum bloggers you really are no better than they are. That really shocks me because although I knew you were a liberal I also thought you had some morals and ethics. I see that I was wrong

I'll leave out the name-calling, and address the substance of your post.
As I get older, I am starting to realize that we control much of our lives, more than most people think.
My car was once stolen. First question the police asked...."Where was it parked?"
"Over there."
"In that dark corner?"
yes, in that dark corner.
"Did you have any security devices?"
"Like what?"
"An alarm, or even a club?"
"No."
"Did you even LOCK it?"
"I think so......"
Yeah, the kid who stole my car was wrong, but I could have saved myself a lot of grief by taking simple precautions. Call it blaming the victim, sure. I call it sound judgment.

A seventeen-year-old kid was murdered recently in our neighborhood. He got into a fight. He brought a knife out. The other guy had a gun.
I didn't hide from my kids the simple fact that violence begets violence and often comes to a bloody end because it would sound like I was "blaming the victim."

The cop was an idiot. You were the victim and the cop treated you like crap. That was wrong. I had the same thing happen to me in Miami a few years ago, I was told by the cop I should not have parked my car in a parking lot.
I told him I would not cause his city anymore grief because I simply would never return. And I haven't.
You are still not saying its wrong to attack the victim, you are still giving approval of the attacks and for that I can never ever see you in the same light again.
Sorry

See, I disagree. He treated me as someone who needed to learn. And I did.

If you want to be the bad guy because you "allowed" yourself to be victimized go for it. I will never take that position. and you are still among the lowest of the low in my eyes and I will never ever see you as any better than even lasher again

Hmmmm....well, I will still respect you, regardless of the fact that you've descended into ranting about lows, I guess because I don't automatically concede your every point.
But, hey, do what you gotta.
