Let's see, McCain had an affair, lied about it, but then admitted all, took responsibility, and then appologized, and that paved the way for his political career.
Is Edwards' problem that he hasn't divorced his wife and married a younger rich woman, or that he waited until he was too old, unlike McCain and Reagan.
One might argue that a successful president is one who has experience with conflict resolution that comes from affairs and divorse. FDR, Eisenhower, JFK, Reagan, Clinton were tested by the interpersonal conflicts of affairs and are looked on as iconic presidents, while LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Bush, and Bush weren't tested by affairs and they failed to win reelection or were seen as deeply flawed in their administration.
