Default Congress on Vacation

Worst. Congress. Ever.
The Pelosi House Democrats voted for a five week vacation in August and September without taking any action to lower gas prices.

......................Yeas Nays PRES NV

Democratic...........213 17.......... 6

Republican..................195.........4

Independent

TOTALS................213 212........10

No House Republicans joined the Democrats in their vacation vote.

GOP.gov put out the following statement:

Rep. Adam Putnam (R-FL), Chairman of the House Republican Conference, issued the following statement shortly after the House of Representatives voted 213-212 – with no Republicans voting in the affirmative – to adjourn for five weeks in August and September without taking action to lower gas prices and break our dependence on foreign oil:

"The Democratic Congress should be held in contempt for voting to skip town without dealing with America’s energy crisis.

“Democrats are out of touch, out of excuses, out of support and out of time. Americans are hurting. Independent polls show they overwhelmingly support House Republicans’ all-of-the-above energy solutions.

“It’s time Democrats put their boarding passes back in their pockets and get to work by voting on the American Energy Act.”
The NRCC released a video on the do-nothing Democrats and their refusal to address the energy crisis facing Americans, via HotAir:

Speaker Pelosi is not only on the wrong side of the issue with Americans, but even a majority of Californians are now in favor of offshore drilling.
To Speaker Pelosi, drilling is still all a hoax.

More drilling isn't the answer.....

The answer is higher efficiency, along with rapid implementation of alternatives....

Even Republican oil men like T Boone Pickens know that more of the same is just stupid.....

The energy bill was not just for drilling it was for nukes, wind, solar and better gas milage vehicles. Along with better Battery's.

But libs didn't even want to take a chance on voteing on it or discussing it. Instead they went on Vacation. Keeping in stride with doing nothing as usiual.

I see it more as whiny republicans trying to push through a pet project that even industry experts say won't make a difference for decades, and even then only a small difference.

More drilling is NOT a solution.

More pandering to big oil by the Republicans....

Fucking stupid.

This is where I actually agree with you - to a point.

A 5 week vacation is ridiculous, especially when there is SO much work to be done. Not just with energy but with criminal prosecution of Karl Rove and the impeachment efforts of bush and his minions.

MUCH work to be done indeed.

But Pelosi has to go. Reid too. And Conyers.

Remember these do nothing public servants next time you are in the voting booth.

Big oil... That's funny... What does that mean to you exactly?

Did you know that Exxon reported 11 billion dollar profits for this last quarter?? Did you know that they paid 38 billion in taxes? Seems the only thing BIG here is the government... And it's only getting bigger. Hate to tell ya, (not really), but 40 to 50% of a gallon is due to taxes. If not for the government we would be paying about two bucks a gallon. They are making WAAAAAAY more than your so called "big oil".... No big surprise that they are not in favor of domestic drilling...

Oil profits are up...way up! There's a huge discrepancy with car manufacturing being way down and oil profit being as high as they are. Something is very odd about that...usually they pretty much coincide with each other.
