Audio: Flat screen TVs 'contribute to global warming' (The World Today) A gas used in the making of flat screen televisions, nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), is being blamed for damaging the atmosphere and accelerating global warming.

Almost half of the televisions sold around the globe so far this year have been plasma or LCD TVs.

But this boom could be coming at a huge environmental cost.

The gas, widely used in the manufacture of flat screen TVs, is estimated to be 17,000 times as powerful as carbon dioxide.

By all means, let's form another Gov Dept...and let's take away all the 's, the TV's, the Spray Cans, the Air Conditioners, we must kill the cattle, their Flatulence is going to cause a hole in the Ozone....Oil is making us sick, Coal will kill us......you guys are complete Moron's.

The only thing you can hope for is that the libs will over reach. This is just another example of over reaching. Life in America is like a trip in "Wonderland", Up is down, and down is up. The libs have allowed this to become a reality. And useful idiots like some here, buy the absurd as gospel, which enable those coming up with such weirdness to become even more emboldened.

Meanwhile the lib will see the facts right up front, and they seem to get in the way of their agenda.

That's why I maintain this concept. It's apparent the libs love the planet more than me. I am willing to go forward as I have always lived, and take a risk that I won't melt from global warming. So I am calling for all planet loving libs, to go to a secure location have algore re inact the modern day Jim Jones, drink the "Kool Aid" literally and leave it to people like me to take a risk, that maybe they were wrong.

PARIS (AFP) - Recent massive volcanoes have risen from the ocean floor deep under the Arctic ice cap, spewing plumes of fragmented magma into the sea, scientists who filmed the aftermath reported Wednesday.

The eruptions -- as big as the one that buried Pompei -- took place in 1999 along the Gakkel Ridge, an underwater mountain chain snaking 1,800 kilometres (1,100 miles) from the northern tip of Greenland to Siberia.
Scientists suspected even at the time that a simultaneous series of earthquakes were linked to these volcanic spasms.

But when a team led of scientists led by Robert Sohn of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts finally got a first-ever glimpse of the ocean floor 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) beneath the Arctic pack ice, they were astonished.

What they saw was unmistakable evidence of explosive eruptions rather than the gradual secretion of lava bubbling up from Earth's mantle onto the ocean floor.

Previous research had concluded that this kind of so-called pyroclastic eruption could not happen at such depths due to the crushing pressure of the water.

"On land, explosive volcanic eruptions are nothing exceptional, although they present a major threat," said Vera Schlindwein, a geologist with Germany's Alfred Wegener Institute for Sea and Polar Research, which took part in the study.

But the new findings, published in Nature, showed that "large-scale pyroclastic activity is possible along even the deepest portions of the global mid-ocean ridge volcanic system."

The mid-ocean ridge runs 84,000 kilometres (52,000 miles) beneath all the world's major seas except the Southern Ocean, and marks the boundary between many of the tectonic plates that make up the surface of the Earth.

When continental plates collide into each other, they can thrust up mountain ranges such as the Himalayas.

But along most of the mid-ocean ridge -- including the Gakkal Ridge -- the plates are pulling apart, allowing molten magna and gases trapped beneath the crust to escape.

Sohn and his colleagues gathered their data in July last year aboard the ice breaker Oden, using state-of-the-art instruments including a mutlibeam echo sounder, two autonomous underwater vehicles and a sub-ice camera designed for the mission.

Both sonar and visual images showed an ocean valley filled with flat-topped volcanos up to two kilometres (1.2 miles) wide and several hundred metres high.

You wouldn't except any rebuttal, Anything that refutes GW, is immediately met with rejection. You use the term denier, and that fits with those who claim the holocaust never happened. GW has become a religion more than a science.

But really everything we do as human beings are causing this dynamic. The more we do towards reducing it, pay through taxes and regulations, the more demands are made. If every goal that the GW community demands were put in place, you'd still speak of doom and gloom, demand more.

As a freedom loving American, I am not ready to sell off my liberties to become more European like at best, and more third world like at worst.

Besides, I still wait for some GW zealot to explain to me before any Buick was idling at a stop sign, the Planet experienced a warming effect that caused the ICE AGE to end. Explain to me how this happened, absent man, industry, and big oil. It's not a denial, it's a matter of logic. I surmise what effects caused that to occur then may be at play today. And the religion of GW views this as the "elephant in the room". You won't answer it, because it does not fit your template.

Finally 35 years ago we had cooling. We regulated and closed down industries nationwide, to stop this then. Now we are into warming. So what does the GW crowd demand? more regulations. It seems go back to when we stopped cooling, recapture that moment, and go forward. But for me to swallow warming while living in cooling, is also reasonable to conclude this is all a hoax.
