Default Very Bad News For Republicans

Their base is getting its ass kicked over these gas prices. Too bad, they will actually think about economic issues in November instead of gay marriage and killing arabs

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/09/bu...d7Kuj5d9rAcWhg

But the pain is not being felt uniformly. Across broad swaths of the South, Southwest and the upper Great Plains, the combination of low incomes, high gas prices and heavy dependence on pickup trucks and vans is putting an even tighter squeeze on family budgets.

Here in the Mississippi Delta, some farm workers are borrowing money from their bosses so they can fill their tanks and get to work. Some are switching jobs for shorter commutes.

People are giving up meat so they can buy fuel. Gasoline theft is rising. And drivers are running out of gas more often, leaving their cars by the side of the road until they can scrape together gas money.

The disparity between rural America and the rest of the country is a matter of simple home economics. Nationwide, Americans are now spending about 4 percent of their take-home income on gasoline. By contrast, in some counties in the Mississippi Delta, that figure has surpassed 13 percent.

As a result, gasoline expenses are rivaling what families spend on food and housing.

“This crisis really impacts those who are at the economic margins of society, mostly in the rural areas and particularly parts of the Southeast,” said Fred Rozell, retail pricing director at the Oil Price Information Service, a fuel analysis firm. “These are people who have to decide between food and transportation.”

A survey by Mr. Rozell’s firm late last month found that the gasoline crisis is taking the highest toll, as a percentage of income, on people in rural areas of the South, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming and North and South Dakota.

Why is this bad news for republicans? People are starting to demand that we start producing our own oil, but we can't because the tree hugging libs have banned oil exploration and refining...

But hey, while the country is turning into a scene from "Road Warrior" there's a salamander in the wilderness somewhere that hasn't been disenfranchised by oil production. I'm sure that will make everyone feel better around the dinner table when the family pet is on the menu.

Short term solution to the problem and Americans that are not brain washed realize that. And, as I stated already, if these rural folk are thinking about economic issues they won't be so worried about gays, guns and the Arab hiding under their beds ready to get them

You keep telling yourself that, while polling shows that 81% of America wants to drill now, like as in yesterday. Short term? Maybe, if 100 year supply is short term to you, and in the meantime there is nothing to stand in the way of developing alternative sources. We could always build nucle... oh, nevermind, the libs blocked that idea too. But then there's wind pow... oh nevermind, Ted Kennedy doesn't want to navigate his yacht around unsightly windmills off the Cape.

The American people are not stupid, we are tired of being held hostage by foreign oil, and it's inexcusable to sit on triple the amount of proven Saudi Arabian reserves for the sake of a fruit fly that nobody other than a leftist wackjob knows to exist.

Oh they are thinking about economic issues alright, and when they can't even afford to get to work they are going to demand answers. There's no need to dust off your moronic "No War For Oil" sign that's been stashed under your bed. Everyone has concluded how absurd that idiotic rant is by now. Left wing environmental nutjobs and the politicians in their pocket are going to be where they focus the anger. But hey, for the moment you liberal idiots can sleep well at night with the knowledge that under a rock somewhere, it's business as usual for a rare dung beetle.

LOL, how did that wr for oil work out?

Americans are not fooled by this drilling our way out of this. They know we use too much oil. 100 year supply? Ya right. There probably isn't enough oil in the world left for 100 years

The Democrat Congress does not want to drill for oil, want to raise gas taxes and income taxes.

Republicans want to drill for oil, eliminate gas taxes and cut income taxes.

Hmmmmmm which plan is best for Americans? This is a tough one!

Wow, not all, nor even a large minority of Americans are Rush Limbo addicts like yourself. They understand that things need to change.

It's very simple, most Americans realize that there is plenty of oil right here in the USA and it appears very few of them call themselves Democrats.

You tell me. I wasn't the one marching around with a gay sign in my hand. If it was about oil we should be swimming in it about now right?

So you know more about it than the oil companies huh moron? There are 38 billion barrels that are unaccessible due to government restriction, and 1 trillion barrels in shale oil that's trillion with a "T" tied up by congress.

Quote:
Present U.S. demand for petroleum products is about 20 million barrels per day. If oil shale could be used to meet a quarter of that demand, 800 billion barrels of recoverable resources would last for more than 400 years.
Sorry clown, I'll take the experts word on the subject over yours.

Swimming in oil from Iraq? Ummmmm....hard to pump oil when you can't keep order. You are seriously arguing that the failure to establish order makes this not a war for oil? What idiocy! You seriously need to think before you write.

And as to drilling, short term solution when there are other ways, like using less oil and turning to alternatives.
