Why is this bad news for republicans? People are starting to demand that we start producing our own oil, but we can't because the tree hugging libs have banned oil exploration and refining...
|
We produce about 40% of our own oil now. What happens if we drill where ever there might be a barrel of oil? That number goes to what, 42% maybe? But if you want to continue to demagogue the issue (like all good Republicans), well you just go ahead and be my guest.

Folks, you can drill for oil all you want here in the US but the price of it will still be set by A) OPEC and B) the stock market.
In 2000 the government did all it could to deregulate the rules which oversee oil and commodities speculation. Compare price increases from 1992-2000 to 2000-now, this does not take a genius to figure it all out.
From 2003 to now we have had troops taking a very agressive military action to totally destabalize a country in the ME. You can talk 'victory' or not in Iraq but the facts are OPEC has a fantastic reason to raise the price of oil because of our occupation there. These are safety issues and they are using that circumstance to justify the cost increase; the price THEY set. Drilling for oil will not do sh*t to help us as long as 150K American troops are on 'their ' soil.

And, most of the rest comes from South America...but, the price for the world is set by OPEC and commodities speculators.

(smile) Nor does it take a Genius to understand that if we put more on the Market, the price of anything drops....the ONLY problem that more drilling would actually cause is if we allowed it to be sold elsewhere.

Nope. Doesn't quite work that way. The way 'our' market has been set up and defended is to protect price fixing from the 'manufacturer' and to deregulate so the manufacturer can do whatever they want. We are now feeling the effects of 8 years of this sort of thinking. If you know anything about the latest Supreme Court rulings and what has happened in deregulation you would know why we do not have the 'free market' you have fooled yourself into thinking we have. Between that and OPEC setting prices we have screwed ourselves...not using oil altogether would be the best option.

lol...You just contradicted yourself.....
The way 'our' market has been set up and defended is to protect price fixing from the 'manufacturer' and to deregulate so the manufacturer can do whatever they want.
So, American Companies cannot "fix" prices on THEIR (Oil.....recovered by them)
OPEC setting prices we have screwed ourselves
Opec is free to do whatever they want with THEIR Oil. They cannot "fix" the Price of American Recovered Crude....and if what you say is true, neither can we....so... IF we drill for OUR OWN Oil...(and replace the 13% we currently buy from Saudi Arabia), we wthen have more product, which will lower OUR Prices...it would be foolish to let OUR Oil go anywhere but here..and THAT would be the only flaw with a planned Oil Independence.

Hi Amazed,
"Winning" is defined by achieving some or all of your goals that you had when you committed to the war. Initially, the goals were the creation of a strong, unified, democratic, very pro-US Iraq. In all honesty, I don't see us achieving any of those goals in their entirety. Some partially....maybe, but not 100% and probably not close. And when you look back on all the effort in money, blood, and people we have put into this thing, I don't think anyone in their right mind will conclude based on the results that it was worth it....or anywhere close to it.

This is why I actually feel sorry for Libs..they hate their Country so much that it's Victory can never be accepted. Misguided, fool hardy belief...because you say so? You will have to pardon me for simply not accepting the premise that only people "like" you are right about everything...
|
You don't need to feel sorry for me, Amazed....I love my country and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the troops that serve in Iraq, Afghanistan, and everywhere else. I'm just a realist. If we don't understand and comprehend just how bad an idea the invasion of Iraq was, we are bound to repeat the same mistake in the not so distant future.

Americans are not fooled by this drilling our way out of this. They know we use too much oil. 100 year supply? Ya right. There probably isn't enough oil in the world left for 100 years
|
Do you have any data showing that?

Winning a War is defined as defeating one's Enemy. The other things you spek of are ancillary objectives, all good ones I might ad, but just that ancillary. The War itself, we are winning. There is no dispute on that..it's aftermath, you are right we cannot know as of yet. As for your "right mind" comment, your subjective opinion.

Again, your subjective opinion, I respect it, but I am not bound to believe it ....just as no one isbound to believe mine. You are making a projection about the Future that you simply cannot prove.
