As publicly traded companies, they already are subject to government regulation, but as long as the criminal enterprise that is the Bush Justice department and the no balls inert Dept of Energy is in power, you won't see the enforcement of anti trust and anti colusion laws, nor will you see anything that resembles energy policy

The SEC knows perfectly well, it has zero teeth without cooperation from justice department, so they do nothing as well.

All that needs to happen, is current laws be enforced, and there needs to be an energy policy that serves American interests, not Oil company, Saudi, UAE, and commodity traders interests.

Remember when it was found that the REPUBLICAN controled LIUNA (Laborers international union of North America was found to be so currupt and mobbed up,.that it went into government recievership ? Not even Republicans complained
The same needs to happen to the oil industry, until it can clean itself up
