The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow.
The measure passed in a 324-84 vote, a big enough margin to override a presidential veto.
The legislation also creates a Justice Department task force to aggressively investigate gasoline price gouging and energy market manipulation.
"This bill guarantees that oil prices will reflect supply and demand economic rules, instead of wildly speculative and perhaps illegal activities," said Democratic Rep. Steve Kagen of Wisconsin, who sponsored the legislation.
The lawmaker said Americans "are at the mercy" of OPEC for how much they pay for gasoline, which this week hit a record average of $3.79 a gallon.

First and foremost, the wallstreet jews, who manipulate the prices, not the Arabs, who control your spending per gallon and it behooves them to keep the prices high.
Secondly, Bush & Cheney are doing all they can to send prices through the ceiling, because both have a vested interest in the profits.
Again, congress is taking worthless feel-good measures which will be wholly ineffective in causing prices to moderate.

The US Govt. should be forced to cut income taxes by 10% for each year Congress exceeds oil consumption limits.
Politicians should be limited to an annual amount of carbon pollution and if they exceed this limit, there should be severe monetary penalties.
The US Govt. is the single biggest polluter in America.

Not just the federal government, but city/local government as well.
I went to pick up my kids from school yesterday and there were 3 cops (all in seperate cars) and they left their engines running while they went in the school. They were in the school for a good 15 minutes, then I asked them to turn the cars off. They gave me a look, until I informed them, that we the people pay for that gas.... I also think it's rediculous to allow them to take the cars home everyday/night. I live in at the beach, and some of these cops do as well, some of them are driving 45 minutes to work... on the taxpayers dime. It's rediculous.
But with so much abuse on the city level, it has to start with the local government. Then maybe things higher up will change.... But nothing will change until we use the resources we have. We have oil shale, cole, oil, wind energy, ethanol, bio-fuels, solar energy... If we utilize all these things together, then maybe we can end our dependency.
I love nature (obviously) and I care deeply about the enviroment, but people have to come first. If gas prices hit eight bucks by the end of the summer, I know a lot of people who will lose their jobs, or close up shop. Current wages do not support the cost of living in America. Unless we do something now, we are truly screwed.

And just how many of you soccer moms were setting in your SUV's to pick up little Timmy and drive him home? If it's anything like the schools around me, it was plenty. All to save little Timmy a half mile walk.

Why would you make an assumption that I am a soccer mom? You think I don't work? I guarantee you, I work harder in a 2 hour period, than you work all week....
Actually, I own a GMC seirra, V-10 deisel hoggin' bitch. I love it!!! And given the nature of my business, I will continue driving it, and I will continue paying for it... certainly not you, certainly not my neighbors - ME! So yes, when I see dipships leaving the engine going - on my fucking dime - I will certainly tell them to shut that shit off!!!! And if you were any kind if citizen, you would do the same!!!!
