Default US soldier refuses to serve in ‘illegal Iraq war’

Matthis Chiroux is the kind of young American US military recruiters love.

“I was from a poor, white family from the south, and I did badly in school,” the now 24-year-old told AFP.

“I was ‘filet mignon’ for recruiters. They started phoning me when I was in 10th grade,” or around 16 years old, he added.

Chiroux joined the US army straight out of high school nearly six years ago, and worked his way up from private to sergeant.

He served in Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines and was due to be deployed next month in Iraq.

On Thursday, he refused to go, saying he considers Iraq an illegal war.

“I stand before you today with the strength and clarity and resolve to declare to the military, my government and the world that this soldier will not be deploying to Iraq,” Chiroux said in the sun-filled rotunda of a congressional building in Washington.

Well, he's got to be prepared to accept the consequences.

What is the difference between a Legal vs. and Illegal war?

hmmm, if you define a legal war as being congressional passed and approved then it's not a war (just like the Vietnam police action). Remember that was the choice to name it by the liberals. So you'd need to say the *Illegal police action* not illegal war since it's not legally any type of war.

Furthermore, he's a chickenshit that was hoping the military was another social program to get paid, gov retirement, free education, health benefits for life and have to do almost nothing to get it!

Once again a liberal caught in their own hypocrisy....

Or possibly, he just doesn't believe in the war, and would prefer not to risk his life in it.

As far as the military being a "social program," they promote it that way. I never see an Army commercial that says, "Go Army. Possibly get Killed!"

Liberals taught us it's suppose to be called a police action if congress has not voted and pass a declaration of war. Also every job has a job description and if you do not do your job it's grounds for termination and/or punishment through a legal system depending upon the contract signed at the time of employment.

Advertisements you say? I never saw a social program being promoted that said *We will take more of your money through taxation and give it to lazy people*! So, in the tit-for-tat world, don't throw stones while you live in a glass house!

Imagine if soldiers actually found out the truth that they are not serving their country but an elite group of rich men that manipulate the world?

If they're high enough on the chain of command, they do know that.

Sometimes the military owns you for various of reasons for a various amount of years. So, yes, they would stay if they're obligation and committment wasn't served fully.

He's a hero to me. Only cowards sit back and let their emperor lie about WMD's in pure violation of what our country is supposed to represent.

The people currently in charge of our government had to lie and torture to get what they wanted.

I don't have to explain how poor an American one is if one thinks liberal-baiting answers for what this brave soldier is talking about.
