Harriman Bank was the main Wall Street partner for several German companies and the varied U.S. financial interests of Fritz Thyssen. Thyssen had been an early financial backer of the Nazi party, but by 1939 was bitterly denouncing Hitler and had fled Germany. He was later jailed by the Nazis for his opposition to the Nazi regime.[5] Business transactions with Germany were not illegal until Hitler declared war on the United States on December 11, 1941, but, six days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Trading With the Enemy Act after it had been made public that U.S. companies were doing business with the declared enemy of the United States. On October 20, 1942, the U.S. government ordered the seizure of German banking operations in New York City. Roosevelt's Alien Property Custodian, Leo T. Crowley, signed Vesting Order Number 248 seizing property under the Trading with the Enemy Act. The order cited only the Union Banking Corporation (UBC), of which Bush was a director and held only one share. Fox News has reports on recently declassified material about this issue, according to a document signed by Homer Jones, chief of the division of investigation and research of the Office of Alien Property Custodian, a World War II-era agency.[6] By 1941 Thyssen no longer had control over his business empire, which was in the hands of the Nazi government.

Read into that what you will. Hitler, until he began attacking his neighbors was the darling of the American left and even Roosevelt thought that some of the programs Hitler put in place were worthwhile. Besides, how does Prescott Bush have anything at all to do with John McCain or George W. Bush?

Yes INHR, it was Granddady Prescot that was the Nazi business associate.

The Bush & Walker family have been about making money by taking advantage of political situations for a long time. Their business relationships with wealthy arab families is also well known: they are deep into the pocketts of the House of Saud, and Bin Ladin too.

Imagine if stuff like this were revelaed about Obama? The AWE right wing fundamentalist nuts would be out in droves. ...pjwky

How did they get "bitch slapped?"

How does what Prescott Bush did or didn't do affect Bush?

Ted Kennedy (and thus JFK's) daddy did business with the Nazis and was a sympathizer.

Does this effect your view of JFK? If not, then please explain the hypocrisy?

It hasn't seemed to quell the love affair liberals have with JFK. Why criticize the current president for his grandfather doing business with a Nazi business when the same criticism isn't aimed at the Kennedys? Looks to be just a partisan complaint. Kudos.

It was Joseph Kennedy, not Ted, however the question remains.

Secondly, since President Bush never mentioned anyone by name is it possible that Barak (Don't call me Hussein) Obama is being a tad paranoid? Or is it guilt??

"Dom" you have a point. I think that GWB is a current political force has much to do with the focus on the Bush family: also we never get to far down the road without another example of the Bush administration doing something less then wholesome & honest; folks can say what they want, but the lead up to the Iraq war & all the lies & distortions & deceptions have left a mark on GWB & his administration. ...pjwky

I said it was Ted Kennedy's daddy, and that would be Joseph.

So is Ted Kennedy.

Fact is, it is hypocritical to make this an issue while claiming that JFK was a good president and a hero to liberals all over.

With the expanding internet don't count on ANY president serving four years, let alone eight, without having all sorts of things come to the forefront which didn't come out with previous presidents.

Fine, if you want to argue lies, deceptions, etc, then why bring up a non-issue in which lefties don't criticize a liberal hero for? That the left doesn't criticize a long time sitting US Senator for? It just makes it look desperate.
