Interesting point. If taxes are increased on the oil companies they will pass the cost on to us. I guess the government could temporarily eliminate all the direct taxes on gasoline and diesel if they want to help the people with the high costs.
As driving is being reduced due to high fuel costs you would like all the libs would be celebrating as it is saving the planet.

I heard one of those congress-persons complaining about the oil companies taking advantage of tax breaks while making big these big profits. Um, who gives the tax breaks?

Congress "grilling" BIG OIL is political grandstanding at its worst. Voters should be embarrassed if they buy in to this as a serious thing.

Look as a Californian I pay more for my gas than do you. I don't like it, but you need to get a life. This blame Cheney, this, Bush that is getting tiresome, and beyond silly.

Did it ever occur to you every time this govt steps into to save us from the "evil profiteers of industry", prices never go down
|
>>>Did it ever occur to you that when the govt does NOT step in that prices always go up? Just as they are doing now and have done for the past 7 years. Has it ever occurred to you that there is simply no 'market' in the oil industry? Right now, the evil profiteers are perfectly free to collude, jerk around the supply, and charge whatever they feel like charging.

And as long as you focus on Bush Cheney, and have them to blame it absolves you from going forward in life. It's a very simple concept, and I am sure will sustain libs for the rest of their lives. It is also pretty pathetic. But then libs are pathetic.
Maybe you should wonder as do I, why Senator Jay Rockefeller is never asked about his wealth, and does he still gain financially from the family fortunes of oil? Maybe we could find out if he gains personally when "Big Oil" gets tax cuts, when they gain from the prices at the pump?
Since I haven't heard him opine regarding this issue makes me wonder what he gains from this dynamic.
And if you need to be angered with Cheney, since the "war for oil' mantra has failed, perhaps you could and should be angry with he and Bush for not directing the oil from Iraq to pay for the war.

>>>Who says the "war for oil" mantra has failed? You? FOTM is, Bush/Cheney invaded Iraq to keep Iraqi oil OFF the market. Both were hugely pissed about Saddam's dumping.

I may not be the first to make such a comment, given you have nearly 9000 posts, I simply wonder if any of them truly made sense.

The DEM controlled congress pretending to jump big oil is the height of hypocrisy and manipulation of the ignorant members of the public.
Big oil is not the problem, of course, its the publics willingness to get drunk on oil, and the congress, both GOP and DEM to not really encourage any alternatives that count. If people were serious about getting away from our dependency on Canadian oil, 1. they would drill their own, and 2. they would drive less. Also, they would build nuclear plants in the east so they dont use heating oil in winter. just a couple of simple things really.
