Well, I don't consider either Joe or Shemp a real Stooge, no more than I consider Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau. Peter Sellers will ALWAYS be Inspector Clouseau and Larry, Curly and Moe will ALWAYS be the Three Stooges.

Beyond his time. Is that like saying it is hard to believe that people of the past had no idea what it meant to be humane or civilised. Maybe it refers to the idea that today we are so right in who we are. Most probably I am just picking on a cliche because I don't quite get it, as a term.
