Amway Republicans
Who is the Republican Party putting in the field for 2006 and the Michigan Governor’s office?
Well – actually Dick (Dick) DeVos, President of Amway, has chosen the Republican Party to be his personal vehicle.
Dick is the son of Richard (Dick) DeVos and Helen Van Wesep.
In 1949, Richard (Dick) DeVos and Jay Van Andel formed the Ja-Ri Corporation and began distributing products on a direct sales basis. In 1959, he founded Amway Corporation with a man by the name of Van Andel.
Dick (Dick) DeVos worked for Daddy and inherited his position at Amway by working ‘hard’ as a salesman.
What is Dick (Dick) DeVos selling Michigan and what has the Republican Party bought? The Ada Christian school web site states that Richard (Dick) DeVos, Dick’s father produced "Selling America," a tape recorded talk he gives now and then, and that he has written three books: “BELIEVE!” , “Compassionate Capitalism”, and most recently “Hope From My Heart: Ten Lessons for Life” which he wrote after his heart transplant.
What his son, Dick, who is running for Governor has done, isn’t exactly clear. It appears he went to work for Dad, then worked for Dad and then pretty much took Dad’s place at Amway.
In the year of our Lord 2000 the Grand Rapids Christian Schools built the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Arts and Worship – so you can guess that the Christian Crowd will be pulling the lever for DeVos.
Clearly Michigan needs something more than an salesman.

A president of Amway to run for political office is absolutely perfect for the neo-cons. Brilliant!

It's funny, years ago I was approached by my mother's old boss about AMWAY. Her boss was the Chief Financial Officer of a hospital that she had worked in for 25 years or so until her retirement. He made a decent living already and I couldn't figure out why he would want to go into something that I was always told was a "pyramid scheme". So, out of curiosity, I went to a meeting. It was held in a hotel in Seacaucus, NJ. basically, it told the story and history of the company, the layout and of course, some testimonials from people who had come from different walks of life, religion and colors to make something out of "this opportunity". I left there feeling interested, but apprehensive. My father thought it wa a scam. My mother wouldn't committ one way or the other and my brother who also thought it was a scam had a friend who had also recently gotten involved in it. This was around 1992 or so. There was a small investment (of course) and a sponsorship and meetings and tapes and conventions etc... In a weird way, it was kind of run the way a 12-step program would be run. The steps to success, meetings, speakers, books, tapes, lots of "God talk" etc... At that point in my life due to immaturity, I didn't really follow through with it, but I did meet some very nice people of all creeds, sexual orientation and religions. My mother's boss resigned from his position from the hospital and now has an ansolutely amazing home in South Jersey which I went to one time before moving (to Maine). My brother's friend is 48 or 49, volunteers for different orginazations and took his kids to school (before they started driving) and now has the freedom (financial and time wise) to do what he wants when he wants to do it. And he's one of the biggest "liberals" I know.
The point of all of this is simple: Never pass judgement on someone or something unless you really know what your talking about. If some of you are so simple as to base a company's legitimacy based on their Republican or Democratic status are the same ones that will go to their grave thinking that Bush blew up the Twin Towers.

Well, I am happy for those guys...liberal or not...I was approached three times (all since 1982) and everytime it was the same thing about getting people to sell under you who would get people to sell under them...on and on...So, who acually does any selling? (LOL! ) I stuck with my thing and am just fine. My thing is I am surprised the neo-cons have not got into Amway, or Service Master, Scientology, or the Forum (et al) and really got some recruits. Seems so natural to get people that are already regimented to do the 'group think.'
Sort of along the same lines...did you guys hear the reports about Walmart getting out of Germeny? The Germans could not stand the corporate mantra and all the rules and rallies Walmart tried to do to hype everything...the workers wanted to keep thier individualism and the unions. I heard this in the car and almost ran into a tree I was laughing so hard. This is the land that once had lock-step brown/black shirts marching across the country to National Socialism (less than 65 years ago). How times change.

Whoa...that is CONCENTRATED gasoline we use here in Michigan now, you only have to use 2/3 as much and that is why the price is so much higher now that I got elected.
