Yes! Like most countrys in the "ME" at the time, Iran stopped trying to make nukes after they found out that we were serious! However they never stopped trying to aquire the materials to make nukes!

Then why are they enriching uranium beyond energy producing levells? you only need 3.5% uranium for energy. You need 90% for a bomb. We have forghin countrys inspect our bombs and nuclear plants. Why doesent Iran? What do they have to hide? Why do they keep this secret?

Who says they are, Smitty? And what are the quality and capabilities of their centrifuges? I do remember the IAEA finding residue of higher enriched uranium on on their centrifuges. But, as it turned out, the residue was from Pakistan.....where Iran had bought the equipment.

But, like I said, Smitty, it's possible that Iran still desires a nuclear weapon. But.....90% enrichment is extremely difficult.

Well, on the one hand you are praising Bush for scaring Iran out of their nuclear program.....and then, on the other, you make it sound like you don't believe the NIE report and think Iran is still pursuing nuclear weapons. So, which is it, Smitty???

Well, actually, the whole thing about Iran and nuclear power goes back to the Shah. In fact, in the 70s, the Shah wanted Iran to be entirely based on nuclear energy....and, we helped them by supplying them with one research reactor and other reactor technology. Perhaps they have the approach (as did the Shah) of why burn our own oil when we can sell it to the rest of the world....at some level, that makes sense.
