JFK had a lot of things going for him. His daddy had "connections" and money to buy newspapers etc. to extol the non-existent virtues of his number two son. The rumor has always been that daddy-o paid Jackie off to get her to stay with the womanizing little s.o.b. because a divorce (back in the day) would have spelled "finis" to his political career and finis to his daddy's political ambitions for his sons. Then JFK had the news media worshiping his every word and every nuance like this playboy had some real insights into governing. Every freaking day there was bald faced worship coming from the t.v. screens and the newspapers...magazines, you name it,they were in the tank for JFK. (Kinda puts one right in the mind of what is happening now, it IS like deja vu all over again.) Then since that wasn't enough they had to put in the big fix in Chicago (where else) to cheat Nixon out of his legitimate win. JFK didn't win the election, he cheated his way into the White House.
After JFK was dead the reporters who had followed him around and had covered his every breath admitted that they had known about his womanizing and other unattractive habits but they collectively chose not to report any of it. That is when some people quit being so naive about the news industry---they felt they had been betrayed by the reporters who kept shut about things that would have given them a different opinion of JKF and that whole rotten family he was spawned from.
Ah yes, and back in the day the "public relations" guys who handled Kennedy were called "myth makers" and that is a tern that fits to a tee as far as I'm concerned.
