Gix- I still do not know why you are shouting in all your posts.
I disagree with you ,NOYB, and OB and others who feel invaded unnecessarily by these security searches. Flying on airliners is a choice-it differs from the warrantless spying that disregards our constitution IMHO.
I fly about 8 times per year and never mind the lines or the search from security. I think they are doing their best to protect us because of criminals who choose to hi-jack airliners. In addition to religious extremists-you basically have a village in the sky with no law enforcement unless you happen to have an air marshall on board -so besides religious extremists any random sociopath could wreak havoc on the flight.
I just returned from Los Angeles and did not mind a bit opening my carry on. Slipping off my shoes does not bother me or a bag search and when I make it through the line I smile and thank the security agents . I feel safer with these searches. Europe and the middle east began this long before the U.S did. I flew into Liberia,Costa Rica this past summer (Ollie's old stomping grounds) and appreciated the amount of security before boarding my direct flight back into the U.S.
I did have a 4 hour delay in L.A. last week because of maintenance problems and I was prepared. I had my notebook, my ipod and a book.I ran into an old aquaintence waiting for the same flight. The only time delays frustrate me is when they might cause a missed connection.
International flights can be uncomfortable in economy, but usually I am so excited about the destination I can overcome 12 hours in a cramped seat. I did splurge and use flyer miles last summer and upgraded to business class to Europe and that was dreamy ( I would never pay $ for the upgrade)
As far as the liquid restrictions- so what-you can take less then 2 ounces when packaged in a plasitc bag. You can buy toothrushes that are pre set with toothpaste and use the water in the bathroom for grooming. I always pack an old washcloth and after a long flight I can wash in the sink and toss the cloth.
I hope they continue the increased security and expand it further to include cargo.
