    Call to Turn Gush Katif Ruins into Buffer Zone - Defense/Middle East - Israel News - Israel National News

    (IsraelNN.com) Deputy Minister for the Development of the Galilee and Negev Ayoub Kara (Likud) called Wednesday upon the government to turn the ruins of the Gush Katif communities in Gaza into a buffer zone between Israel and Gaza. He spoke on a tour of Shaar HaNegev Council which borders on Gaza.

    Kara -- a Druze -- is considered to be one of the Likud's most solidly hawkish members. Earlier this month he visited the Gush Katif Museum with former governor Mike Huckabee during the American politician's tour of Israel and the two agreed that sometimes it takes non-Jews like them to be "more Jewish than the Jews."

    Madonna wows 50,000 in Tel Aviv

    Wednesday, September 02, 2009 Israel Today Staff

    Madonna wows 50,000 in Tel Aviv

    Aging pop queen Madonna performed in front of 50,000 Israelis at Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv on Tuesday in what local media hailed as an electrifying show.

    Her stop in Israel marks the finale of Madonna's Sticky & Sweet world tour.

    During the show, Madonna apologized for having not performed in Israel for over 16 years, and at one point grabbed an Israeli flag and paraded around stage with it.

    Madonna, who is an adherent of a New Age-flavored twist on Jewish Kabbalah, told those gathered that she views Israel as "the energy capital of the world."

    AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

    Major controversy has arisen as a result of a recent meeting President Obama held with selected Christian and Jewish leaders, most of whom did not question his vision of a Two-State Solution for Israel and Palestinian Arabs.

    This letter, signed by four major Christian and Jewish organizations, presents a very different viewpoint on Middle East policy, particularly the Arab-Israel conflict. It was published today as a full page ad in the Washington Jewish Week as follows:

    Dear President Obama,

    Our organizations, representing the views of millions of Americans, are deeply troubled that current Mideast policy initiatives by your administration will compromise Israel’s security and undermine the longstanding U.S.-Israel alliance. You have expressed a willingness to consider a broad range of views. In this spirit, we urge you to address the concerns of the important segment of both the Jewish and Christian communities which our organizations represent.

    Your calls for a freeze on construction in the so-called “settlements” only serve to promote the anti-Jewish bias of Israel’s enemies. Stifling the growth of thriving Jewish communities will not bring peace. Therefore, we urge you to take the following fundamental factors into account when formulating U.S. policy regarding the Middle East:

    1. Israel is entitled to be recognized by all nations as a Jewish state which protects the rights of all of its citizens and freedom of worship for all faiths. The Jewish people became a nation over 3,000 years ago in the Land of Israel, which encompasses Judea and Samaria (the so-called “West Bank”) as well as the city of Jerusalem. The Jewish people’s fundamental right to settle throughout this land was explicitly recognized under international law by the League of Nations (Mandate for Palestine, unanimously adopted 1922). This internationally guaranteed right has never been abrogated or revoked by any international successor organization. Therefore, U.S. policy must support the right of Jews to live anywhere within the Land of Israel.

    2. It should be understood that the United Nations recognized the State of Israel in 1948 not only because of the Holocaust but also because it recognized the historic and biblical right of Jews to live in their ancestral homeland. The Arab nations’ refusal to accept this fact has been demonstrated countless times over the last 60 years by their hostile behavior towards Israel.

    3. The “two-state solution” currently promoted by your administration is incompatible with the fundamental right of Jews to live on their own land. Establishing a Jew-free, terror-sponsoring Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria would seriously undermine Israel’s security as well as violate the internationally guaranteed right of Jewish settlement.

    4. Israel, as a sovereign nation, has the unconditional right to designate an undivided Jerusalem as its capital. Jerusalem was established as the capital of the Jewish nation in biblical times. The city was divided by illegal Jordanian occupation of its eastern neighborhoods in 1948, and then reunified under Israeli sovereignty in 1967. Jerusalem stands today as a free and unified city. Therefore, U.S. policy must explicitly recognize Jerusalem as being Israel’s capital, and firmly reject any proposal which would redivide the city.

    5. As a sovereign nation, Israel has the right to self-defense, especially with regard to the imminent threat of nuclear extermination by Iran.

    A just and lasting peace can be achieved in the Middle East only when the Palestinians and all the nations in the region first recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. In addition, they must cease their incitement against Israel and the Jewish people.

    Mr. President, “settlements” are not the issue. We urge you to focus on the true issues we have presented and to give them the highest priority. We would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you for a full discussion of these issues.

    None of those people are in Israel.. Sabeel is a Christian organization in Galilee.. and they have growing international support.

    Israel should withdraw from the occupied territories including Shaaba Farms and the Golan Heights and they should give the existing housing paid for by the US taxpayer to the Palestinians as reparations.

    Despite of antisemitic industry brainwashing, people in the USA support Israel:

    New Bipartisan Poll: Massive Increase in Support for Israel
    The Israel Project

    New bipartisan poll shows big jump in support for Israel

    • A clear majority of Americans believe that Israel’s prime minister is committed to peace with the Palestinians;
    • 9 out of 10 voters agree with Obama that the Palestinians must reduce incitement;
    • Nearly three-quarters of Americans agree with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s promise not to build any new settlements, but to allow for normal growth of existing settlements;
    • 95 percent agree that Palestinians need to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.

    Washington, D.C. – A new bipartisan poll (Word document, PowerPoint) by Neil Newhouse of Public Opinion Strategies and Stan Greenberg of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research (GQRR) completed for The Israel Project (TIP) shows that a strong majority (59 percent) of Americans support Israel in the ongoing conflict with the Palestinians, an increase of 10 points since June.

    Further, fully 63 percent of Americans believe the United States “should” take Israel’s side in the conflict. This represents an increase of 19 points since earlier this year. Only 8 percent believe that the United States should take the Palestinians’ side.

    Neil Newhouse of Public Opinion Strategies said, “U.S. support for Israel has been resilient through the years, and is shared by Americans across partisan and ideological lines. It’s clear that Americans feel a sense of shared values with Israelis and share in that country’s efforts to defend itself against terrorism.”

    Said TIP Founder and President Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi, “Israel’s commitment to peace with the Palestinians is long-standing and deep, and its prime minister supports a two-state solution.”

    Mizrahi also pointed out that a majority (57 percent) of Americans believe that Israel’s new prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is committed to reaching a peace agreement with the Palestinians, while only one-third believed that either the Hamas leadership in Gaza (30 percent) or Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (36 percent) share that same commitment to peace.

    In other survey findings, a majority of Americas disagree with Palestinian leaders’ position not to start negotiations until Israel halts all construction on settlements. On the contrary, by a 72 percent-23 percent margin, Americans agree with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s promise not to build any new settlements, while allowing Israel to accommodate for natural growth of existing settlements.

    As a basis for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, fully 95 percent of Americans agree that Palestinians need to recognize Israel’s right to exist and acknowledge its standing as a Jewish state.

    Further, by a 90 percent-8 percent margin, U.S. voters agree with President Obama’s statement that it is important for Palestinians to continue to make progress in reducing the incitement and anti-Israel sentiments that are sometimes expressed in schools and mosques and in the public square, because those things are impediments to peace.

    “Clearly Americans want ending the culture of hate to be part of U.S. policy in the Middle East,” said Stan Greenberg of GQRR.

    The poll of 800 U.S. likely voters was conducted by telephone Aug. 22-25, 2009 for The Israel Project by Neil Newhouse of Public Opinion Strategies and Stan Greenberg of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research. The margin of error is +/- 3.5 percent.
