Default Top officials knew of neglect at Walter Reed

Send them to war but don't take care of them when injured...this is pathetic.

I haven't been there since 1994...but it was a dump back then. But, I will say my husband received exceptional care. Crime ridden area...pathetic.

A local anesthesiologist in the guard just came back from Walter Reed after a conference. He said with more lifesaving techniques in the field we will have more severely disabled veterans and now Bush has cut benefits. Really sad...

Personally some leader is going to have to eventually tell the truth to the American people that we need to raise taxes to pay for all of this war/veterans/military costs. Maybe those vets will be the homeless with their missing limbs in about 15 years and when the elite on this forum who do not believe in social programs helping vets walk by they will sneer in disgust. Very sad indeed... I am part of an annual program with about 300 community people who donate professional and practical servcies to homeless veterans.

Benefits are being cut and more disabled veterans are being discharged.

I just discovered the general in charge back in 04 when Salon broke this news is now going to head it up again. What's more he has been actively denying these allegations over the last few weeks.

So first they tell the soldiers to shut up unless they fill out paperwork and get authorized to speak to the presss. Then they fire a general who isn't responsible for the mess and put in charge the general who originally created the mess. Only in the military do we see such gross examples of incompetence.

If you feel so badly about it...you can always go to the nearest V.A. Hospital and help out the vets on weekends. I do...I belong to the DAV.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it...

Hospital's history turns a page
By Tom Vanden Brook, USA TODAY
WASHINGTON — For almost 100 years, Walter Reed Army Medical Center has been the healer of Army privates, American presidents and international pooh-bahs.

Now the Army hospital, which sprawls over more than 100 acres of valuable real estate in Washington, has grown too old to meet the needs of modern medicine, the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission has determined. On Thursday, it voted to close the hospital. (Related story: Walter Reed Army Medical Center selected to close)

The decision drew flak from the mayor, neighbors and a historian who say Walter Reed should be saved.

Besides it`s not really about the hospital it`s self...but an annex were soldiers are roomed for treatment.
