Cat, good post. Sam, good comments.
I think the Bob Woodruff special doomed the General.

Do you mean for veterans health benefits cuts? Lets see I can choose from thousands ..here is one above this post.
Or do you want a source about the increased numbers of disabled and maimed veterans? Do you prefer a medical journal or a mianstream news source?

Serving the nation's veterans
"We have increased funding for our veterans more in four years than the previous administration did in eight years."— President Bush, Aug. 16, 2004
Spending on veterans has increased faster under President Bush than at any time since the Vietnam War. Like homeland security, it is strongly supported by Democrats as well as Republicans.
Among the reasons for the increase: The veterans health care system is adding hospitals, clinics and nursing homes. Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who came from the National Guard and Reserves are eligible for two years of health care from the Department of Veterans Affairs. That system was opened up several years ago to veterans with higher incomes whose illnesses or injuries did not stem from their military service. Greater numbers of veterans from prior conflicts have signed up for disability and pension benefits.

All this feigned outrage over the VA system is for political gain, both parties use the VA as leverage, if you want to know the real culprits, just follow the money.
It is a matter of record, who have been the ones holding up the current VA budget for the last few months? Place the blame were blame goes. There is about 500 plus opertunists on the hill. Should throw'em all out and start all over. The system has been underfunded for the last 30 years, were has all the outrage been? BD

Just one hospital in the whole V.A. system!....and I believe they are over crowded because it is a brain injury and loss of limb specialty VA hospital... and more soldiers are surviving those injuries than before...thanks to better care.

Jody this isn't just "one hospital" it is the symbol of the VA!
Without question the soldiers are surviving injuries that would have killed them only a few years ago. But the Bob Woodruff report and Veterans associations stated that the VA was UNPREPARED to deal with these survivors.
Dat's a bad thing.

Shades of Kerry...and The winter soldiers...
Steve Robinson, director of veterans affairs at Veterans for America, said he ran into Kiley in the foyer of the command headquarters at Walter Reed shortly after the Iraq war began and told him that "there are people in the barracks who are drinking themselves to death and people who are sharing drugs and people not getting the care they need."

Actually it is one annex...in a run down section of washington!...not the hospital.
