Hezbollah has condemned an Israeli TV channel for airing a blasphemous show that offends Christianity, Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary (PBUT).

In a Thursday statement, the Lebanese resistance movement described the incident as an 'offense against the rights of a holy messenger of god', IRNA reported from Beirut.

It was not surprising to see 'Zionists' broadcast such sacrilegious material, given their history, which is filled with 'the massacre of prophets, destruction of mosques and churches and offensive behavior toward Islamic and Christian sanctities,' the statement said

Hezbollah called on all 'advocates of human rights and freedom of speech' to condemn the move and force Israel to abandon the notion that it is allowed to ridicule religious beliefs of different faiths.

The statement came after Israel's Channel 10 aired 'like a virgin' -- a show hosted by comedian Lior Shlein, containing offensive material against Jesus and the Virgin Mary (PBUT).

The provocative show has sparked outrage among Christian leaders, who have described it as it 'hurtful and humiliating to Christianity.' Believers around the world have called on Pope Benedict XVI to cancel his upcoming trip to Israel.

Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to visit Israel in May. This is while the relations between Tel Aviv and the Vatican have deteriorated following the decision to lift the excommunication of Bishop Richard Williamson who denied the Holocaust.

Shlein promised to apologize on air, only after a group of Christian attorneys said they were building a case against the comedian.

I am not sure... In a way I think Americans fail at introspection. While we ARE free do do crass disrespectful things, many don't consider whether its in good taste or appropriate. You can see evidence of that throughout our culture.

We're pretty short on good manners and respect.

So are many cultures including we Australians - BUT the Australian military is not responsible for the slaughter of over 12 million cilvians in foreign lands since WW2 like the US military is.

And not a single case of the US mainland being attacked by another aggressive sovereign nation. Even perl harbour does not fit in this category becasue techinically Hawaii was not part of the USA at the time.

One of the symptoms of this is actually believing that the US model of social and economic organisation should be spread around the world and be used as the ONLY example of how to live.

History tells us that these so called empires are short lived and unfortunately leave behind a trail of destruction and blood shed.

It is from this rubble and blood and bone that new stems sprout.

Hopefully with time humans will learn how to avoid these totalitarian abysses.

And the crazy thing is, the USA isnt a democracy (its best described as a Plutocratic Oligarchy - hardly a model for democratic principles)

The USA is also one of the most religiously fundamentalist states on earth - probably rivalling Iran and nations such as that.

The problem is its very difficult to look into the mirror with an honest gaze and be self ciritical. It takes courage and intellect. Both of these virtues are discouraged in mainstream USA.
