Iraqis want democracy more than anything else. Even some of the Sunni Iraqis, who were living the high life while Saddam was in power, want to see peace and an Americanized Iraq. It's not the Iraqis who don't want democracy; they're fighting the terrorists who seek to end this dream. People from all over Asia and Europe are coming in as we speak and blowing themselves up.

Saddam was NOT controlling Iraq. The best argument one could use is that he forced people to comply with what he said by use of torture and death. It's an underground type of thing.
I have not been to Iraq, and I see no reason to go now. Can you provide proof that Iraqis were crying out on a global scale (which would warrant the USA coming in) to have the US come in and instill a puppet govt. Where was this insurrection pre US occupation. Also you live in NY, not Iraq so you are just as comfortable as I am.

I am sure that the Iraqis were wanting to be free of Saddamm and his sons. They controlled by fear and brute force. I am not sure that people that haven't ever had the right to make decisions for themselves will know how to govern but they deserve the chance and that is why I support our soldiers and the adminstration on this.

The fact that they have already had 3 or 4 elections and have a higher voter turn out than the US does says a lot. They risk their lives by going to vote for a DEMOCRATIC government. That says exactly how much they like our help.

Yes, they have shown a great amount of courage just going to vote than we ever have had to deal with. But they still need to start working with their goverment and the US when dealing with the insurgents. This is going to be a long fight.

Yes it is but you have to remember that their government has only been in power for a short time and if we just up and leave it will crumble.

First they have to learn to fight along side Kurds, Shiite and Sunnis. Then they can clean up the mess.

Rob is right. Iraqis showed their dream of a democracy when they risked their lives to vote.

It's not Sunnis vs. Shias as much as it's People aginst an Iraqi democracy vs. The People who do. It just happens that the insurgents are Sunni. What Al-Qaeda's doing is inhumane. Blowing up little kids at a schoolyard, blowing up an elder's house, gunning down children, etc.; I don't see a need for that. Right now it seems like the people of the world are all against seeing an Iraqi democracy
