Begin and the Irgun were outraged by British insensitivity to the Jewish plight. The Jews had not forgotten about the British restrictions on immigration leading up to and during the war years, which no doubt directly led to the deaths of many Jews who were fleeing the Nazis.

The British were trying to reneg on their agreements, were arresting Jews, and siding with the Arabs. Is it any great surprise that the Jews fought back?

It took great courage in my opinion, for this small group of under-equipped ragged Jews to face off against the might of the British Empire. Also, it is worth noting that the Irgun opposed terrorism, opposed attacks on civilians, and generally restricted their attacks to British army officers, and retaliatory attacks of reprisal against Arabs who had attacked them.

Don't forget the Irgun also fought at times against the Haganah and the Jewish Agency, whose actions were often perfidious in nature.

I would respect and admire the "Palestinian" terrorists for similar reasons, if they acted more like the Irgun. They don't attack Israeli army officers, and Mossad installations though. They attack women and children, and blow themselves up on buses and such that have no military significance whatsoever. There is therefore a HUGE difference.

Of course they wanted the massive illegal immigration of European refugees to stop..

The were Zionists weren't they, or just victims of the Jewish Agency.

There is no reason for anyone to expect the Arabs to see their population nearly double with hostile foreigners in little over a decade.

Lets review...

Jews were being slaughtered in Europe. Britain had promised these same Jews a homeland in their Palestine Mandate. Britain then froze immigration, directly leading to the deaths of thousands of Jews turned away and sent back to Europe.
Is it a great surprise that given this the Jews turned on the British? You can only kick a dog just so many times before it is finally going to bite you...

As for the Arabs...it wasn't up to them. They did not own the land and they were not a sovereign entity.

False. The Irgun (I have not once mentioned the Stern Gang and that is a separate matter entirely) "deliberately murdered" the soldiers who had deliberately murdered Jews. In most instances their actions were entirely retaliatory.

Very good post. The British are the biggest mass murderers in the history of the world. They raped and pilaged one fourth of the world and kept it under their control. The British were worse than the Nazis. They murdered 3 million Irish in the 1830 and 1840s. They invaded Ireland , took any valuable land for themselves and made the Irish live on only potatoes . When the potatoe crop developed a fungus, the British continue to export enormous amounts of food raised on Irish land and allowed the Irish to starve to death by the millions.

The Palestinians only arrived in the Jewish homeland to provide services to Jews who returned to their homeland in large numbers beginning in the mid 1800s.
