Condi having tea and biscuits in Palestine
she is posing for pictures, smile pretty, she is articulate.....but accomplishing what? She is not even meeting with the "elected" leadership of Palestine. Friends this is scripted theatrics. Why are we meddling in Arad v. Jew affairs? It is not our fight. I say we stay out and focus on the Iraqi genocide. All of our media is concentrating on the Israel agression and not on the Iraqi-nam. Why?

Because it is our fight, also. If Israel were to loose, the radical Islamist could go onto their next target. Do you know who that is? The West.

Just like if the commies took Vietnam right, we would all be named Nikoly and slamming wodka, hey komrad? Besides, our support of Israel has made us their target for years. Israel is not the thin blue line holding back fanatical Islam. If we were not mired in a boondoggle that is Iraq, I would say we would be most prepared for a radical Islam strike, but.........

Do you seriously claim that Hezbollah threatens the very existence of Israel? A militia of a few thousand soldiers max (and among them less than a thousand professionally-trained, full-time soldiers), armed with a few thousand rockets as their only heavy weaponry, could somehow topple the IDF, one of the most powerful fighting forces in the world?

The Israelis are getting bogged down in Lebanon. I can almost hear Olmert's conversation with Bush - "Okay, now's the time to send Condi. We wanna quit anyway."

One of Hezbollah's stated goals is the destruction of Israel. What evidence do you have that would suggest that they will stop anywhere short of that?

When the Israelis began their campaign, their avowed plan was to push Hezbollah 35 miles to the north, beyond the Litani, and destroy most of its arsenal. Now, suddenly, after realizing that Hezbollah wouldn't crumble under the bombs :
From BBC News http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5214046.stm
Mr Peretz said a zone in southern Lebanon would be maintained "under the control of our forces if there is not a multinational force". He did not specify whether Israeli troops would remain there but insisted they would "continue to control [Hezbollah]" in their operations.
Israeli government sources have estimated the width of the zone at anything from three to 10km (1.9-6.2 miles).
What a daring, dazzling plan !
I agree with your assesment, George O Well, the Israelis realize that they can't take out Hezbollah with their misguided strategy. Behind all the Olmertian and Peretzian tough talk, none of the Israeli civilian and military leaders want to lauch a full-scale ground invasion of Southern Lebanon.
And, as they don't wish to lose face, they call Washington for help.
On the other hand, if none of the parties involved are able to agree on the cease-fire and the international force in South Lebanon, the conflict will worsen, as no one will want to back down and become the "loser" in the eyes of public opinion.

They will stop because the IDF will stop them. Whatever Nasrallah says, Hezbollah CANNOT destroy Israel. Even if they want to. Rockets and AK-47s work just fine for a little guerilla-style war in the Lebanese mountains, but marching to Tel-Aviv with katyushas and kalashnikovs? And there manpower is also very limited : a few thousand soldiers max.
So, whatever Nasrallah's fantasies (and I don't doubt he dreams of Jewish annihilation), Hezbollah will never be able to destroy Israel. It wouldn't even be able to invade and a secure a square mile of Israeli territory. That's a FACT. The rest is rhetoric, fantasies, and propaganda.

How exactly is the IDF supposed to stop them without bombing their positions or invading? Are they supposed to let the rockets keep flying until Hezbollah runs out? Israel's main goal is, and should be, to protect their citizens.
