Well see junior...unlike in HALO and CAll of Duty. Tthere are these people in buildings and citys where bombs fall. And artilery lands. These are people not fighting you. But they are killed by the fighitng. indiscriminte area fire weaponnry tends to have that effect in a urban enviroments. NOt to mention the strong attraction many American bombs have to British Soldiers asses.

You act as though I havent served in Iraq. You want to blame us for the enemys CHOICE to use civilians as a shield? Am I a murderer? Collateral damage has been lower in this war than any other war in history but nothing can please a liberal who hates his country and the people who defend it! The enemy chooses the battlefield not us. Just because he embeds himself with civilians doesent mean that we stop fighting the enemy. People in this forum have seen me on webcam. Mideaster knew I was in Iraq by how I knew the Iraqi culture. I have been quized in military knowlege by military wives and challenged multiple times on this issue. They all know that I am a US Marine. You just have a problem with it because it is detramental to your arguement. The truth hurts doesent it?

JDAM - Joint Direct Attack Munition. In my mind, probably the primary weapon that revolutionized warfare in the late 90s....from massive bombing to precision bombing. Basically, they took a bunch of pre-existing iron bombs and fitted them with a GPS guidance and tail kit for about 30K a pop....far cheaper than the 1 million dollar TLAM.

They are a pretty reliable system, NOYB,...but that's not to say that they don't malfunction every now and again...locked fin, etc.

This kinda shit is always over played once its been released.. Like the Harpoon. It hit one ship on the other side fo the Azores ONCE and and the Navy was shitting themsleves with glee and acted like it was a easy thing and could be done again. Yet the only 1 out of 6 did it.

The DOD is poor and paupers and vitually retarded at Budget time but when these weapons are made. The PR guys come and they can rain fucking thunder on people like Zeus. The reality is much different. What works in thoery doesnt tend to work as good in practice. Sometiems even theory sucks.

Lots of corrupt politicans force alot of real junk on the Military. But JDAMS are only one example of all sorts of Freindly Fire and large inncetn death toll. Afghnistan surpisingly even seems to be higher then Iraq.

Independent of technology, there will always be a chance of hitting the wrong target and it will likely always happen to some degree. I don't think that there is anyway around it. However, I venture to say that dropping JDAMs is a hell of lot more efficient and less likely to cause collateral damage (especially as the war heads get smaller) than the days of carpet bombing. Again, it doesn't eliminate collateral damage....weapon malfunction and human error is always a possibility...but, it does drastically reduce it.

The Harpoon is a Cold War era weapon that like the Exocet hits the first thing it sees once it opens its eyes. It is no longer a viable weapon system.
NYOB, there have been some pretty amazing advancements in weapon technology. They are not perfect....not by a long shot. But, without JDAM, TLAM, LGBs, targeting data bases, etc. the civilian casualties from collateral damage would be much, much higher.
