Is Rap a culture? What does it have to do with Africa? For that matter, what does it have to so with African Americans, besides the fact that many of the artists are African American.
I would say it is a movement based on actual and perceived persecution, perpetuated by the likes of the NOI, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. It has evolved in recent years, but angry young black men initially performed it. I don't think it represents the African American or African culture at all. It is a political and social movement much like the Hippies of the 60s
