Student Was Mistakenly Placed On Bus By School Aide

(CBS) LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. A Long Island City public school bus driver is under fire after apparently kicking a misplaced 5-year-old off her bus in the middle of a Queens housing project.

Omar Murray doesn't even take a school bus to get home from school, but a PS-112 school aide in Long Island City mistakenly placed him on one after dismissal on Friday afternoon. But his mother isn't angry because of that mistake, but rather what happened once her son got onto the bus.

"About nine blocks from my house he was thrown off the bus and left with a stranger," Jackelyn Soto, Murray's mother, told CBS 2. "She took him without checking a list."

Murray rode the entire route -- about a mile long -- and ended up at the Queensbridge housing project where he says the bus driver threw him off.

"He said he didn't know my name and then he kicked me off the bus," Murray said.

A woman picking up her own children heard the entire incident happen and took Murray to her home where she contacted his mother. Soto has enlisted a Manhattan law firm, Burstein & Blum, and says she plans to press charges against the school bus driver.

"I believe people make mistakes, but this mistake is unacceptable," Soto said. "Anything could have happened. He may not be here right now."

The Department of Education is now investigating the incident. In the meantime, the school bus driver in question has been suspended and the school aide has been disciplined. The school has also created new rules for putting children on the bus.

So the last time I brought a up school bus incident it was because the kid couldn't speak English. No biggie, he was left at school and that is a somewhat safe place. Good thing I am not the father...

i bet if it was the other way around.... First it would of been called RACIST. you would of had your usuall cast of characters. Jackson, sharpton etc. Then you would have to have a forum.... Then apologies and then in some twisted fashion it would all be blamed on bush

Gixaholic- The kid was "black" and I don't know the race of the bus driver, but I assume she was not "white" as Jessie and Al have not assploded yet.

And even if my 5-year old was left at the Ritz Carlton I would be pretty pissed. These people exist and they just don't care about anyone but themselves.

This happened to my baby once when she was in K, but I didn't sue anyone. I laid into her teacher for putting her on a bus when I had picked her up every day since the first day she started school. I asked her there in the pick up line what was she thinking and that I’d be back after I found my baby to find out what she was thinking and she better be there, but the thought of suing her or the bus driver that dropped her off where she told him she lived without ever seeing her get off there never crossed my mind. We have roughly a mile long drive way that she walked all the way down and then waited in the gate house.
