Naturemomma, thanks for starting this thread. I am all for honoring all people that gave this country its independce. I just think that as a nation we take this freedom too lightly.

I agree... Everyone has been saying "happpy 4th", I like to remind them that it's called Independence Day! Freedom is not to be taken lightly.
For those of you that have cable/dish... Today, the history channel is running shows about the revolutionary war, and additional shows about how our freedom was born.

Yes, I saw that in the tv guide. The more complaince we become the easier it is to loose our freedoms.

America was born after the revolutionary war. Prior to the war, we were under british control. Idiot! The revolutionary war solidified our freedom. The revolutionary war was the birth of this country. Read a fuckin' book or something, and educate yourself before you type.

LOL, whatever little guy. But please, follow the arguement instead of distorting it to draw a favorable conclusion. The truth is that most Americans considered themselves free born Englishman. The creation of the United States did not create freedom in the colonists eyes, it defended them. Read the Declaration of Independence:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. --That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. The revolutionary war was between Britian and 13 BRITISH colonies. Foreign nations allied with the American colonists and later declared war on Britain, making the conflict international. The war was the culmination of the political American Revolution, whereby the colonists overthrew British rule. In 1775, Revolutionaries seized control of each of the thirteen colonial governments, set up the Second Continental Congress, and formed a Continental Army. The following year, they formally declared their independence as a new nation, the United States of America.
You should go back to that public school, that gave you such a shitty education, and demand a tax dollar refund.
BTW, Jefferson's version of the declaration is not the final draft. The congress changed much of the wording and deleted about a fourth of it. Congress agreed on the wording on July 4th 1776. The article was not a matter of law until August.
Do you even know anything about Independence day? Or how it came about? You are obviously one of those stupid people who got just enough information to hurt yourself. STFU, and read something.

Freedom began on the battlefield. If not for the men and women in uniform, no one else would have any the rights.
