The sad thing about Independence Day is that most of our youth don't even know why we are celebrating it. Moreover, I don't believe it's because they are stupid but ignorant.
With that said, they are ignorant because they haven't been taught History especially in the area of The American Revolution. Hence they don't have any concept of an "American Identity".
It's easier to shove the North American Union, the Amero, NAFTA and the NAFTA Super Highway when you have no concept of sovereignty and self determination.
I can't find anything on TV today regarding the American Revolution nor all those that have sacrificed all for The Sovereign Union of the United States. That’s Sad!

It's this kind of ideology that is ruining our Nation

Yes "CrankYank", You Are So Right. I was in the Navy assigned to the Marines back at the end of Vietnam: I was there because I was required to be, but I am glad now that I was there and I benefited greatly from that period of my life.
However, you are so right when you mention that there are so many different ways that Americans can serve & protect this Nation. I live in rural Kentucky, and in this morning's newspaper letters to the editor a veteran writes that on every 4th he has flown his flag, but to day he will not "because he has come to believe that being a true patriot requires more then flying a made in China Wal-Mart Flag." He is right about the part that it takes more then just flying a flag, or a lapel pin.
My Flag is out & waving strong: however, no sane person living in this land of ours can be so blind to to miss the developments of the last 25 years: 2008 is a different world then the America of 1941 where with few exceptions we rose to a challenge & won the day. Today is a very different challenge, and probably a far more deadly one to our very existence as a free people: yes we need warriors, but we also need politicians free of greed, we need scholars & political scientist & historians & jounalist & educators & doctors & lawyers & builders & carpenters & truckers & so many others, on & on.
But most of all what we need is a vibrant & informed citizen who will take the time and energy to look around, and make some cold hard decisions: and then go out and work toward rebuilding America. It will take a lot of work & a lot of sacrifice! ...pjwky

For those of you that have cable/dish... Today, the history channel is running shows about the revolutionary war, and additional shows about how our freedom was born.

Political Correctness defined :
A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

"There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army." --Thomas Jefferson to David Humphreys, 1789. ME 7:323
"I do not like [in the new Federal Constitution] the omission of a Bill of Rights providing clearly and without the aid of sophisms for... protection against standing armies." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787. ME 6:387
"Nor is it conceived needful or safe that a standing army should be kept up in time of peace for [defense against invasion]." --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Annual Message, 1801. ME 3:334
"Standing armies [are] inconsistent with [a people's] freedom and subversive of their quiet." --Thomas Jefferson: Reply to Lord North's Proposition, 1775. Papers 1:231
"The spirit of this country is totally adverse to a large military force." --Thomas Jefferson to Chandler Price, 1807. ME 11:160
"A distinction between the civil and military [is one] which it would be for the good of the whole to obliterate as soon as possible." --Thomas Jefferson: Answers to de Meusnier Questions, 1786. ME 17:90
"It is nonsense to talk of regulars. They are not to be had among a people so easy and happy at home as ours. We might as well rely on calling down an army of angels from heaven." --Thomas Jefferson to James Monroe, 1814. ME 14:207
"There shall be no standing army but in time of actual war." --Thomas Jefferson: Draft Virginia Constitution, 1776. Papers 1:363
"The Greeks and Romans had no standing armies, yet they defended themselves. The Greeks by their laws, and the Romans by the spirit of their people, took care to put into the hands of their rulers no such engine of oppression as a standing army. Their system was to make every man a soldier and oblige him to repair to the standard of his country whenever that was reared. This made them invincible; and the same remedy will make us so." --Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Cooper, 1814. ME 14:184
"Bonaparte... transferred the destinies of the republic from the civil to the military arm. Some will use this as a lesson against the practicability of republican government. I read it as a lesson against the danger of standing armies." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Adams, 1800. ME 10:154

Had men and women not been on the battlefield, the men who created this nation would have been blown to shit, you idiot. Why do you think they were able to be cozy in a room? Because people were dying so they could pen what this nation would become!
Post all the quotes you want, you obviously have no idea what any of them mean. Go'head, see what else you can dig up on the internet, rather than the knowledge in your own brain. Douchbag!

And if militarist assholes like yourself back in Britain not tried to take the Colonists rights away and sent troops here we wouldn't have needed to fight.
Also, I want to thank all the lawyers that have helped make this nation great. Without them laws couldn't have been written, interpreted and carried out.
Likewise I want to thank the Merchants and the farmers, the laberorers and the sailers, and the teachers and the police officers...all of whom have helped make America possible. They have made our freedom possible
