Still, I think there is a compulsive need to eradicate all mentions of God from the public square as if it is the most toxic notion corroding our culture today. Leftists want to get rid of the very word "God" from our money, our court houses, our constitution.
Bottom line: this country was founded on Judeo-Christian values. There is nothing wrong with that, just as long as you don't ram it down anyone's throats. But when a High School valedictorian's mic is turned off because SHE CHOOSES to thank god during HER TIME on stage, we've got a problem. I wonder how many mics have been turned off because students decide to bitch about Bush or America's greed or our involvement in Iraq.
Faith and optimism in a greater meaning, is a good thing. But, to each his own. I don't think schools should be in the business of teaching religion but I don't think they should go out of their way to CRUSH IT either. And lately we've gone too far in the atheist direction. THe left is completely intolerant of religion, that is UNLESS IT'S ISLAM. AND THEN IT WANTS TO "UNDERSTAND" AND "BE THOUGHTFUL", BECAUSE AFTER ALL, THEY ARE THE RELIGION OF PEACE.

I have no problem with a student giving a speech thanking God. I do have a problem with a prayer being led by a government official/proxy at same event.I don't think removing religion from school events/classrooms is crushing religion. I have no problem with it being studied as an elective course. I don't think this is an 'athiest' direction. it is a secular direction. This is a seculat society. Have there been extremes by both sides, sure. I don't believe most liberals are intolerant of religion, just intolerant of having it shoved down our throats. As for your comment about Islam, I totally disagree. It is a religion like any other and should get no more or NO LESS tolerance than any other.I personally accept that the word God is on our currency and on buildings etc., in a historical context. I don't see it worth fighting to get rid of. And I do not believe the word God is anywhere in our Constitution.

"All men are created equal... endowed by their CREATOR". OK, it's in the Declaration of Independance, but it proves that the founding fathers valued the importance of God.
As far as Islam goes: When I see thousands of Muslims reacting to suicide bombings with the same OUTRAGE that they had for those stupid Mohammed cartoons, then I will feel better about the state of their religion. But I remember seeing old Muslim ladies dancing in the streets after 9/11, celebrating our horrors. I see no general condemnation of the daily brutality committed in the name of Islam. Yet if a Koran is (supposably) flushed down a toilet, then all hell breaks loose. Why doesn't the murder of innocent children offend Muslims in the same way? Face it: they are not the religion of peace. THey are the religion of victimization and bloody revenge. A small group might differ, but they are the silent minority. Unfortunately.

fun2c you are right about our president being loved in other countries while been evilized here in the U.S. by a small but very loud minority. Whatever Bush does no matter how great it is, the libs will always find something wrong with it. He is just so evil! ahhahahaha. I also agree with you that history will treat president Bush more kindly just like Reagan. I also agree with you that if the Iraq war becomes a success story in the eyes of the world, we could see a movie called "Hillary's war" or why not even "Obama's War". Hollywood will show democrats as being the driving force for us staying in Iraq and give the libs credit for making a once oppressed country, a free democratic government.
