I guess for me these photos are too sad to joke or argue about: I find myself wondering where in Hiroshima they were taken.

While in the Navy, I visited Hiroshima in 1973, the memorial site is impressive & tries to reflect the horror with some grace, but after seeing these photos the present day site does not even come close to touch the horror.

(Back in 1973 we had to travel in uniform overseas if we were going to use MAC transportation, so my 2 buddies & I were in uniform at the Hiroshima Memorial: we got some ugly looks, and even some ugly words --mostly from international tourist, not Japaneese-- and we really did not care: however, as I have grown & matured, had kids & grand kids, I now think of a nuclear horror as truely "untihinkable & always immoral for the human race.")

I have now learned that among several different options, among several options, Truman did have the option of dropping the bomb on a Japaneese Naval Base with few civilians: he chose Hiroshima & Nagasaki with high civilian populations instead. To be fair to Truman, there were also military manufacturing plants in those cities too: and no one really knew the tremendous power & devistation the atom would bring to real cities.

However, NOW we do know: and the WWII bombs were babies compared to the nukes of today: God let us pause and think carefully as we chose our future leaders: all of humankind will loose BIG time if anywhere -or- anyone in the world gets to that point of darkness ever again. Einstein was right: "the Atom is God's alone, corruptable man must leave it be in His domain." .....pjwky

My post was aimed at the extraordinary devistation any nuclear exchange would have on all of the human race if it were to ever occur again. My father was a Marine also in the Pacific in WWII: I was there as a Naval Officer assigned to the Marines toward the end of Vietnam.

I don't think "the civilains deserved enerything they got": they were probably as helpless against a terrible government as we are: that said, my point remains, nukes are just too terrible & once released beyond human control. ...pjwky
