Hey the book corner
When I was traveling to Paris I read this book a friend of mine suggested reading
called 'Devil in the White City' by Erik Larson. I have since found a lot of people have read this book. Was wondering if anyone else has read it & what are your thoughts.
For those not familiar with Larson's work he takes historical events & through research brings them alive in story form.
This was close to home for me because it was about the Columbian exposition in 1893 in Chicago. It was an amazing book & really brought that time period alive for me in Chicago.
Anyone read it or know about it?

No, but it does sound interesting...I'll have to look for it....Historical fiction can be a lot of fun if well written...
Lately I've been reading a lot of the history of various areas near where I live...but they have been non fiction....
The most interesting was a history of Long Beach WA.....
There's colorful people everywhere in history....the story of the Pacific County Courthouse coup was hilarious.....men with pitchforks in rowboats...I think they did have 1 firearm though....with exciting places like Oysterville....

LOL!
I don't believe that you'll get much response from the wing nuts here. I doubt that they know how to spell book, let alone read one.

Sounds like a good book crow . I will see if my library has it.
Has anybody been watching the History channels " Indiana Jones"????
Same premise , they are taking a young Indiana Jones and walking him through history. I'm enjoying that show, but don't know if it's appropriate for kids as it might confuse them as to dates and figures in history.
For instance Christopher Columbus and George Washington could never have met in person.
But still a good show .

I don't think I would be too interested in that book, based on the topic, but if I run across it I would probably read it because you mentioned it on here.
I am still looking for that series by Banks . . . . I have checked four different Half-Price Book stores and none of them have any books by him. I did find one by him at Borders but it wasn't the series you were talking about. I refuse to pay full price for almost any book though, so I will have to find it on the cheap at a Half-Price sometime.

Fuck this. All these idiots will do is review Ann Coulter 10 times over. Smitty will have some Tom Clancy books. Ducky will have a David Koresh Biography. This wont ever work.
