My crushed car and injured cat...
I was indoors last night with the windows taped up and instant noodles ready for a weekend of uncertainty as Typhoon SEPAN paid Taiwan a visit...
All was well until 6:30 am this morning when I noticed the wind getting stronger and stronger and louder... I just comforted my very scared wife and told her it would pass soon, however, it did pass but a falling tree crushed my car... I went outside around 10:30 am and noticed the damage...
I had my car taken away and the strangest thing happened... When they lifted my car, there was a white persian like cat under it... The cat seemed to be Ok, just very scared... Its left foot paw had a small cut, but nothing major... It's not my cat, but this cat isn't a street cat... It is beautiful, and has a tag but no contact phone number... I will take it to the vet on Monday for an overall check-up and then I will post pictures of the cat around my neighborhood... So a car that didn't survive SEPAN, an injured cat that did.
I guess miracles are for animals too!

Thanks, Rob, the car I can replace... It's still raining and a little windy in Taiwan, but the Typhoon is on its way to visit China...

The Cat's owner...
I was asleep when I the loud banging on my door awoke me...
It was an older woman maybe in her 80's... She looked distressed, confused, and a little speechless... She finally after a minute ask me if I had seen a white persian like cat named feng-ling, and I just couldn't believe my luck...
I gave her cat back to her with a smile and a tear... She was the happiest woman I may have ever seen... So, it's a good day!

On our way to Guam from the P.I.,,,we ran into this Typhoon.
Super Typhoon Nina was a short lived but intense super typhoon that caused major damage and deaths in China, mainly from the collapse of the Banqiao Dam. Hundreds of thousands of people died due to the resulting floods, making it one of the deadliest tropical cyclones recorded in history. The collapse of the dam due to heavy floods also caused a string of smaller dams to collapse, adding more damage due to the typhoon.

[edit] Storm history
Storm pathA well defined through line extending southeastward into the Philippine Sea spawned a disturbance on July 29. After initial status as a disturbance, Tropical Depression 3W moved southwestward for 36 hours as the structure of the system began to organize. On July 31, the depression slowed down and began to rapidly intensify to a tropical storm and was named "Nina" then it began to turn to the northwest. A subtropical ridge prevented Nina from turning further north and it began to track west-northwest just before reaching typhoon intensity.
Nina underwent explosive development on the late hours of August 1. Aircraft reconnaissance reported a 64 hPa drop of pressure on the same day as well as August 2 with wind speeds increasing from a mere 65 kt (75 mph, 120 km/h) to 130 kt (150 mph, 240 km/h) during that period and it attained it's peak intensity of 135 kt (155 mph, 250 km/h mph later that day. The typhoon began to weaken as it approached Taiwan, making landfall near the coastal city of Hualien as a Category 3 storm with 100 kt (115 mph, 185 km/h) winds.[1]
The storm began to weaken as it battered across the island's central mountain range, sparing the most populated areas from the eyewall. It entered the Formosa Straits as a weak typhoon and the storm came ashore near Jinjiang, Fujian, China.[2] After moving toward the northwest and crossing Jiangxi, it turned north on the night of August 5 near Changde, Hunan. A day later, the storm moved over Xinyang, Henan, and later at Zhumadian, Henan for three days, and the typhoon brought heavy rainfall, causing the infamous collapse of the Banqiao Dam. The storm moved southwest on August 8, and dissipated soon afterwards.[3]

It always makes me happy to reunite a pet with an owner but I always wind up llamas and horses , wounded full grown great Danes , never just a scared kitty . Oh well the reaction is the best part .
