Default Minutemen

About a month ago, I joined the Minutemen. My goals were to:
1. See first hand, what is going on along the border.
2. See what the Minutemen did, and what the people involved were like.

Here is the procedure to join:
1. Fill out an application.
2. Have a complete background investigation done on you through the Minutemen at you own expense. Everyone who is out there has paid $50 to be there.
3. You get contacted by phone, they advise you of their policies. The firearm policy of the Minutemen is that they do not promote the carrying of firearms, but they will not interfere with you carrying a legal sidearm in a legal fashion. No long guns. (When you see news coverage of people standing around with assault rifles, it is fabricated)
4. You are issued an ID
5. You are provided with training at the base camp for the operation that is currently underway. This training pertains to the standard operating procedures. Just an idea:
a. Your job is to observe and report.
b. You do not make contact with the illegal aliens.
c. Do not talk to the illegal aliens or respond to insults or taunting.
d. You do not detain the illegal aliens.
This is just the jist....basically, you are just there to tell the border patrol where the illegals are.

The people that I have encountered that are involved with the Minutemen are no different than most you see everyday. Retirees, Doctors, Lawyers, Nurses, Merchants. I do not know what resides in peoples heads, but there was no overt racism. Everyone was tired of the blatant disregard of our laws and the damage to the Sonoran Desert, and the Governments inaction. All in all, it strikes me as a big neighborhood watch, hardly a vigilante movement.

I have not yet been in the field. That will be later this month. I will update you more after that.

I will say, my initial impression is that it is a worthwhile organization. The Minutemen have been unfairly demonized by the media. Portrayed as a bunch of redneck racists. that is not the case at all.

Don't believe me? Then join and see for yourself. Nothing like generating an opinion based on fact and experience.

Commensence, this sounds like a very good organization. I hope that you have a good experience with them and I look forward to hearing your reports. I posted a thread last night about Senator Inhofe from Oklahoma presenting a bill on illigal immigration. In this bill, there would be support and training for just such an organization. It would also give local law enforcement the right to enforce federal immigration laws (which they now don't have, but should). I support this bill completely.

Kix is also a member of the Minutemen and agrees that they are far too often portrayed in the media as some sort of vigilante group when they're actually nothing more than a huge neighborhood watch group.

I thought about joining The Minutemen. Then they told me they had no use for a sniper!

The only folks whom I have heard calling the Minutemen "vigilantes" were; George Bush and some of his cronies, Vincente Fox and his cronies, and a whole damned horde of illegal Mexicans and their supporters and cronies. In other words, a bunch of people who have zero influence on me. From the get-go I was a staunch supporter of the Minutemen and their influence on the border, if it were possible for me to do it I'd be right there with them!

The only reason the minutemen are here is because goverment refuses to do anything to stop the invasion.

Exactly! And it is ironic for any member of this "do nothing" govt. to critique a member of a group, or the group as a whole, which is dedicated to doing their job for them.

I live too far away from the border but wanted to help, so I sent them a donation. Goverment will not do anything until we as citizens get mad and make them address the issue.

did you see bill last night they showed video of illegal trying to hit them with bolders while they were trying to arrest one illegal. If that would have been an American standing as close throwing boulders at the police he would have been shot. This whole game has boiled over so bad that the shit is riseing to the top so the American public can see the lies. If homeland security was doing it's job border patrol would have automatic weapons and if they were threatened they would shoot these insergents and the shit would stop because they would be to fucking scared. And yes as soon as they attack our people with rocks, bolders, and steel ball bearing from wrist rockets they are insergants (combatants).
