Presidents address on Immigration
I think he laid out a balanced workable plan. It addresses the border but is fair to people who have lived, worked and had their families here.

The Prez's immigration address
For the most part, Bush's five points for dealing with illegal immigration are the best option to follow.
However there is a problem with making immigrants carry id cards, most people would throw these cards out immediately and claim they are a citizen.
Without a national ID, the point of making cards for only immigrants has no purpose.

Exactly. This was my only sticking point as well. Otherwise I thought he paralleled the solutions we had come up with on a few if the threads here. I was kinda proud of that.
The Biometric cards do bother me though. The issue for a national biometric ID was shot down a few years back and I'm afraid they are gonna try to back door the issue with immigration reform.
Aside from that, that was the first presidential speech I didn't cringe all the way through. I'm still not sure it wasn't an impersonator.

What will happen
Congress will forget to close the borders, the illegals will continue to flood in, and all these immigration "Solutions" will just further complicate the situation.
I hope Congress remembers to close the borders

Barn Door Bush.
Mr. Bush wants to call up the National Guard to ‘protect’ our nation’s border against illegal immigration from Mexico.
It’s a little late for that.
He could have said something to the Federal Government when he was governor of Texas and 5 million illegal immigrants were flooding into that state (and our country). The general idea in Texas at the time was that illegal immigrants helped fuel their economy so no one said anything except to call for more illegal immigrants.
Car washes, lawn care companies, construction work, food processing, manufacturing and other jobs were given to illegal immigrants and taken away from Americans. The argument is they were doing jobs that Americans would not. Everyone knows that is not true.
It might be more effective to station National Guard troops outside of Tyson chicken packaging plants or Cargill processing facilities or any cotton gin across the nation.
The impact on our nation is serious. For example, Tyson forced the price of chicken up at companies like Perdue that obeyed our national laws.
The food processing jobs are not at McDonald’s. They are in meat packing and even frozen food production.
Why would Mr. Bush turn around quickly?
The National Guard is done in Iraq. The regular Army is taking over and the Guardsmen coming home need work.
The fact is the work isn’t here.
They can point their guns south while behind them millions of illegal immigrants do the jobs that Americans are not allowed to do.

. . . as I have been saying for years now ... Bush is too Liberal!
The "EARLY SHOW" just added another straw to the bail of facts to prove it...
The had a clip where Colorado Republican Tom Tancredo was saying he did NOT support Bush's plan regarding Illegals ....
AND then they showed a clip of Teddeeeee * HICK * Kennedy saying that Bush was absolutely right!

Bush is liberal but that is beside the point of disscusion Joe. The point is that Bush's speech made me happy and i' m not so happy with the cards deal but i'm sure illegals will settle down now that we agreed to do business with them. I do want them to speak english though whenever i go to the grocery or something, i can't understand them even though i am in spanish lol.

I think Bush has pulled the wool over everyones eyes. The only way you stem or significantly cut down on the number of illegal alliens entering into the U.S. is to dry up the jobs.
A bill must be passed to severely punish employers who hire illegal workers in this country. Folks, these people are coming here for jobs! if empolyers faced fines and jail sentences for hiring illegal workers you would see the jobs dry up significantly over a 6 month period.
Once the illegals realize U.S. businesses will no longer risk their businesses and freedoms to hire them; the illegals will eventually go back home.
Secondly, Bush and the future President of this country must engage the Mexican gov't about improving the standard of living and opportunities for their own citizens. If Mexico continues to send their unemployed into America, the U.S. must then start sanctions against Mexico.
President Bush only pandered to his base of supporters in my opinion. Bush actually supports all the cheap exploited labor invading my country because his coroporate constituancy loves the bottom line of hiring Illegal workers.
Afterall if an illegal is payed slave wages who will they complain too? if an illegal is injured or killed due to unsafe working conditions who will they complain too?

nothing will change, no matter how many speeches or laws, until the EMPLOYMENT laws that are already on the books are enforced.

I thought he did a good job. I don't like the guest worker thing though. Amnesty by any other name is amnesty just the same. I also think we need 15,000 guard troops there. Not 6,000. I do like that Mexico is mad at us though. They threatened to sue us. Hilarious.
