It is true that slaves cost too much to maintain. In the book
Disposable People by Dr. Kevin Bales he makes the point that the new, modern slavery is to use up the economic value of the human machine and then discard it once its value has expired.
MY point is that the people who make the argument that criminal aliens do the jobs that "Americans won't" are making an argument that semi-slavery is okay.
All these jobs that Americans supposedly won't do were once done by Americans.
People talk about the fact that criminal Mexican aliens pick the fruit and therefore keep it cheap. However; if one remembers the Steinbeck book
Grapes of Wrath you also see that Americans picked the fruit at one time. Of course those Americans were demonized as well, being called Okies and other such names.
Minimum wage is also another red herring argument. In years past people in the trades were NOT paid minimum wage. They were paid very good wages. Now trade owners can pay LESS than minimum wage because the people they hire have NO legal status.
Kind of like the Dred Scot decision that said black people were not humans.
