Default Do you support slavery?

Because there seems to be this argument out there that criminal aliens are okay as long as they pick fruit and vegies cheaply so that I don't have to pay that much for it.

Or as long as people who come to work here for really next to nothing and have no rights under the law leading to exploitation provide me or someone else with cheap daycare, cheap lawn service etc

then it is okay?

Slaves cost too damn much to maintain. The only reason slavery has been outlawed is because businessmen and landowners have found that it is in their economic best interests to pay minimum wage (or below).

If you believe in slavery than you should be the slave.

It is true that slaves cost too much to maintain. In the book Disposable People by Dr. Kevin Bales he makes the point that the new, modern slavery is to use up the economic value of the human machine and then discard it once its value has expired.

MY point is that the people who make the argument that criminal aliens do the jobs that "Americans won't" are making an argument that semi-slavery is okay.

All these jobs that Americans supposedly won't do were once done by Americans.

People talk about the fact that criminal Mexican aliens pick the fruit and therefore keep it cheap. However; if one remembers the Steinbeck book Grapes of Wrath you also see that Americans picked the fruit at one time. Of course those Americans were demonized as well, being called Okies and other such names.

Minimum wage is also another red herring argument. In years past people in the trades were NOT paid minimum wage. They were paid very good wages. Now trade owners can pay LESS than minimum wage because the people they hire have NO legal status.

Kind of like the Dred Scot decision that said black people were not humans.

I'm a Yankee, dude. Don't be talkin' like that. FOTM is, it is less expensive for a business owner to pay minimum wage than it is for him to feed and clothe slaves. Otherwise, we'd still have slaves.

>>>Only corporatists and their Bushy-boy shill make arguments like that. FOTM is, if they were to let the market work, they'd find plenty of people to do those jobs. But capitalists do not like market economics.

Yankees usually aren't so obtuse. As a Californian Yankee you make no sense.

What is a corporatist? What kind of arguments do "bushy-boys make?

I don't disagree that SOME capitalists don't like the manner in which the market works, but to say all is stupid and again obtuse.

Sorry, come back when you have something of value to add to the debate.

Jeez, add it up. The cost of feeding, housing, clothing and veterinary care for a slave is much more than minimum wage.

>>>Sorry, moron, I'll stick with ALL. There ain't a capitalist anywhere that doesn't want to drive his competition into bankruptcy and corner a market. Come back when you pull your thumb outta yer ass, eh?
