I believe the difficulty in getting the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act passed in Congress is that everyone is adding amendments that muddle up the two main aspects shared with the Oklahoma legislation: (1) local law enforcement to enforce immigration laws and detain and deport illegals, and (2) prosecute employers of illegal aliens.

It appears that all 3 presidential candidates support these two aspects of the CIR Act. Tell your reps to clean up their act and clean up the Act and vote on it already.

I recently visited OK and spoke to a Mexican restaurant owner. He said a lot of Latinos (I assume mostly Mexicans) are leaving due to this new legislation. It is really working in terms of making OK unappealing to illegal immigrants.
I am curious as to the long term impact of this legislation. I would like OK to prove, either one way or another, what prevention of low wage workers has on the economy. I mean that is what it boils down to, illegals are low wage workers. When I say one way or another, I obviously would like to see the state flourish but would also like to see what drawbacks it has.
Personally I think residents will just have to do their own gardening, employers will pay janitorial workers and fast food clerks a bit more. For the service industry I think it will not impact them much. Some fast food place charges the same prices for food in CA or OK. Now they say:'well we need low wage workers to survive.' I dont know about that. What about the high rents in CA? So the rent is lower in OK but the wages are a tad higher while the CA wages are lower but the rent is way high. It evens out except for the workers. In CA they need higher wages due to housing being much higher. So the illegal worker is getting screwed by being in a liberal state (city, or what have you). But how liberal (socially just) is this? Is the conservative state, OK, more socially just? The housing is lower in OK and the employer pays higher wages (relatively speaking compared to the cost of living).

Sorry to go off on some economic tangent but that is quantifiable while running around saying you welcome anyone to the country is not.
