Lightbulb .S. economic slowdown likely to bring Mexican workers north

"Economists say that U.S. recessions historically are tougher on Mexico than they are on the United States , and that while U.S. officials say that border security measures, such as building a wall along the Mexican border, have reduced illegal immigration in recent months, they won't hold back the flood of workers that's likely if Mexican factories close."

Well, there are two states, Arizona and Oklahoma, that don't have to be too worried about a new wave of illegal Mexicans breaking into the US. Why? Because they just passed tough on illegals/tough on the employers of illegals laws. These laws require MANDATORY e-verification of an employee's legal status, removes the business license of repeat offender employers of illegals, and requires PROOF of legal status to receive social services, which effectively dried up the jobs magnet for illegals, and resulted in a mass exodus of illegals from those states. Currently 30 plus state legislatures are considering passing tough on illegals/tough on the employers of illegals laws similar to what Arizona and Oklahoma passed.

Let's see. It would seem that those states that go ahead and pass tough on illegals/tough on the employers of illegals laws, because the jobs magnet for illegals will be removed, won't have to worry either about any new wave of illegal Mexicans breaking into the country.

But, on the other hand, those states that don't pass these laws shouldn't be too surprised when they get literally deluged and overwhelmed from the hordes of illegals who break into their state, both from the possible new wave of illegals breaking in from Mexico as well as the hordes of illegals leaving those states that DID pass these tough on illegal/tough on the employers of illegals laws.

New laws were never needed, only the enforcement of existing laws.

As far back as I can remember, going to my first job at 12 years old in 1972, it has been required of employers to verify SS card & citizenship before hiring, and part of that reason was because if they did not, they were subject to prosecution.

Well, MANDATORY e-verification was never required to determine the legal status of an employee. It IS now in Arizona and Oklahoma. An illegal with a fake SS card can get a job with an employer, and even if the employer knows for a fact that the employee is illegal, the employer can always say that he had no way of knowing if the employee was legal or not, because the employer wasn't required to do an e-verifican check on the employee. Employers can no longer get away with that in Arizona and Oklahoma.

Employers who are caught hiring illegals can be fined. Because hiring illegals is so lucrative, employers can pay the fine as a cost of doing business and go right on hiring illegals and paying fines. In Arizona and Oklahoma, that same employer would lose his business license. Game over.

Yes, if the existing laws had been enforced, new laws probably wouldn't have been needed. But, the existing immigration laws weren't enforced so it took new much tougher laws to make up for it.

Agreed. But, we are soon leaving AZ and wonder what the situation will be like in NC? I'll tell you one thing, I won't miss the border control cars.

Well, I wouldn't say that NC is being exactly overrun yet with illegals but with an estimated 400,000 illegals in the state it is just begining to become a haven for illegal aliens. I believe that our schools are becoming overcrowded, our hospitals are starting to become stressed, our jails are becoming overcrowed, latino gang violence is reaching record levels, and we do have sanctuary cities.

Labor Unions are recruiting illegal immigrant workers.
Labor Unions should be shut down for this illegal activity.
