This is one of the most ridicules ideas ever hatched (note the play on words…) by our illustrious government “leaders”. It is right up there with the “Bridge to Nowhere”. Let’s take a close look at this monstrosity and compare it to its predecessors. The China Wall is 4000 miles long and took centuries to build. Almost 3 million workers died during its construction and at times as many as a million troops have been used to protect it. It is in a constant state of decay today. The Berlin Wall was 96 miles long 12 feet high and took 14 years to build at an estimated cost of $4M. We all know how that ended. Now, some of our government leaders want us to build a fence to encompass and secure our borders. Let’s continue our look at this grand folly of an idea. The United States has 2000 miles of border with Mexico and 3145 miles of land border along with 2380 miles of water border with Canada. That’s over 7000 miles of border to protect and that doesn’t even include either Alaska or Hawaii. But we all know those two states don’t really count because they aren’t “attached” and thus would not need border protection (I’m sure the people of Anchorage and Honolulu agree to that thinking). Now I know the advocates of the MCWO do not propose all 7000 miles need the border fence but I question their wisdom in just how effective a partial fence would actually be and is a border fence really the ultimate solution to our illegal immigration problems. Just think about it. What will the fence be made of, 4 foot chicken wire or massive steel retaining structures? What will the cost be? Let’s consider the chicken wire approach. A 100 foot length of 4 foot chicken wire is about $100 thus a 5000 mile chicken wire fence should come in at around $26M. Peanuts right, sound reasonable to me. Oh, maybe we should also include some posts and maybe some wire fasteners as well. Then there is the labor cost involved to construct it. However, labor shouldn’t really be a problem even though Americans won’t want those jobs because we can always use the cheap immigrant labor for that. At least until we get to the last ten feet when we expect all the illegals to go back through the fence when they get deported. And of course unlike the 40 foot high, 20 foot wide China Wall or the 12 foot Berlin Wall, a 4 foot high chicken wire fence will most definitely do the job. I doubt if any illegals would even think of breaching something as daunting as a section of unmanned border fence in the middle of nowhere. Good grief, reconstructing one of our most treasured cities after Katrina isn’t considered a priority, why in the world should we think building a border fence is the best use of our financial and human resources? Why not have the American Rubber Corporation build the largest condom in the world and put it over the entire United States. That would be just as plausible and as effective as a border fence. This brain fart of an idea is nothing more than political posturing to the American people in an attempt to demonstrate a strong attitude towards homeland security and to demonstrate the United States is not to be considered weak on defense (i.e. the Republican mantra). It is right up there with the ideas on illegal immigrant amnesty and safe haven cities, the politicians only jump on the band wagon of such ideas in order to not alienate the Latino vote of the legal immigrants. A very small percent of Americans believe in a border fence, amnesty or the safe haven cities. However, most do believe enforcing existing laws and going after employers that use illegal immigrants are the most effective and expeditious ways to combat our ever growing illegal immigration problem. Let’s try doing the right thing for a change and use some common sense rather than allowing the posturing politicians to pacify us with ridiculous ineffective governing.

you have made some good points. If existing laws were actully enforced
it would help. Then we need to severely punish companies who hire
illegals and stop sending federal money to sanctuary cities. If no jobs and
free education for illegals and free health care existed they might stop coming. I myself am tired of the fact that illegals can get free health care
and never be hassled to pay any,and yet as aworking person they will
follow me to the end of the earth.I am for no social services to illegals.
We should change the law that says if you are born here you are a citizen.
I believe if your not supposed to be here in the first place then how can
a child of an illegal belong here either.
However I dont agree that a fence cant work.I have some design ideas.
they work for prisons dont they. I bet you have one around your house to
keep neighbors from borrowing your lawn ower.
If we dont build a fence maybe we should start shooting
