From the article...
Any journalist wanting a quick Africa poverty story can find it there in half an hour. And now at least one travel agency offers tours round Kenya's Kibera slum, one of Africa's largest. "People are getting tired of the Maasai Mara and wildlife.
No one is enlightening us about other issues. So I've come up with a new thing — slum tours," enthused James Asudi, general manager of Kenyan-based Victoria Safaris.
I saw this the other day. Hubby said he woudn't go back to Kenya, let alone pay for it. Plus, just read the N.O tourism is "rebounding".

FYI: Savannah, GA, does a bus tour of the historic area and to make the round back to the station goes through the projects. Not a great feeling.

I am not real sure why tourism is rebounding in NO when the ninth ward hasn't been rebuilt.

The illegals that are rebuilding the city make WAY too much noise. Hard for the welfare residents to sleep till noon with all that noise.

The good news:
Since 'Chocolate city Nagin,' in violation of the Second Amendment, confiscated firearms from LEGAL OWNERS, the fast growing scum population can now boast the nations highest murder rate.

Yes Crow when Katrina hit I gave, I gave a LOT. Now? Nagin, and his welfare supporters can rot in hell.
Please remember that not all of US from New Orleans fit this mold. Some of us were well prepared and somewhat educated. Of course I didn't go to the dome in hopes of getting a new TV and furniture.

Of course there are those like the ones who tore down the fence to the Ibberville housing project about a month ago because they wanted "THEIR" home back. They wanted their lifes just like they were before Katrina so they threw out everything ( including items in 2nd floor apartments that were not damaged ) then call the TV stations because they are sleeping on the floor with no water or power.

Most were given a chance at a new life somewhere else. Now that they realize that theres no public transportation and no grocery stores within miles they claim that they are being screwed.

Hell, they don't even have people to rob unless they hike for a good ways.

Most of the city is abandoned for a reason.

River, I understand what you are saying. The people that haven't moved on are the ones that haven't done anything for themselves in years.

EF: our church in GA goes frequently, my GA neigbors goes 1x a month to help rebuild and bring donations. Our church now has been several times, donates regularly. You're right, it would be nice if everyone pitched in.

What is a Christian? Someone who follows someone else's construct? Or is it following the heart of shared humanity. Accepting a Savior is just the beginning, what do you do in a post saved environment? I say you listen to the obvious. If the least among us has his eyes staring in your soul than I look back & say,

I see.

The cynicism of this post is a an observation of Africa....

Look at the beauty & frailty of the Masai warriors.
Look at the beauty & frailty of the Animals on the plains....of the Mara.
Look at the beauty & frailty of the human beings living in squaller, the new safari.

Look how we have to go over there to see this suffering.
Look how we condemn & judge in our own house, the U.S. in one of our rooms New Orleans, how they somehow deserve it because they are decadent, they are poor, they are democrat, they are ....pigmented.

Yet nowhere have I heard they are my brother & my brother is my keeper & how I treat Him is how I treat myself.

Lets just go on a safari in the new tour, the Slums....over there.
I'll try to reply in the least confusing way, given my limited tech. abilities.

"Shared humanity" is good.

"If the least among us has his eyes staring in your soul then I look back and say, I see."
Yes, Crow, and you nod at each o ther and walk on, and both your hearts soar with recognition. When souls meet, the trappings drop away.

"Look how we condemn and judge in our own house."
The mere act of judging others has been so condemned in our culture, that our values have become disconnected. Judging is mandatory if we wish to determine right from wrong, good from bad . It also allows us to see how right and wrong works on a people as a whole. An example would be the corruption visited on this country since Bush came to power, and how his corrupt, sidestepping-of - laws and long held foreign policies, his lies, his invasion of an autonimous country, etc. have opened the door for easy access to a corrosive, unethical element in our society. Because of this pc or christian idea of don't judge, which imlies don't see, don't think about it, no one questioned what was happening until we got tired of paying the bills and burying the dead.

"...they are my brother and my brother is my keeper and how I treat him is how I treat myself"
Yes, good words, but words are cheap. To influence others, you must walk-the-walk. People will see, and try to follow.
We are the most flawed of species. Makes one wonder our purpose here, and then of course, God is created (I do believe) with a great deal of convoluted rational.

Crow, if you're still so bent on waving your favored charity in front of us why haven't you gone to New Orleans yourself and taken a bunch of pictures to bring back here and shove in our faces while claiming victim status for them for another two years?

Sure you cynical reject that can only point out perceived flaws but can't actually have a conversation unless it fits your piss ant small minded myopic hate filled opinion. Sure.
Sure, obfuscate the discussion by finger pointing & name calling & using any & every tactic possible to distract from the discussion.

I'll do that when you get your head out of your bigoted reactionary ass.

Let me know when you can have a conversation instead of a cynical mean spirited name calling fest. If that's all you wish to do we can go at it I don't mind.
