Hi "oceanb", yes earthquakes can be very deadly. I was in Okinawa Japan some when in the Navy, and then Hawaii & the Mariana Islands some too: we experienced some real "earth shakers" and they were no joke.

Mother Nature can be a real big killer with things like volcanos & earthquakes: typhoons & cyclones are biger then here too. But to me nothing is as abrupt or scarry as an earthquake: I was close when Haliakila in Hawaii went off one time, but the earthquake still takes the prize for me.

This one in China hit in the middle of the afternoon when lots of people were in buildings too, and that I guess would be a worst case scenerio. ..pjwky
