Most important is a difficult theme as anyone can see from all the great posts on this thread.
Gutenberg did have an innovative design movable press, but most important was his absolute drive and daring through financial hardship and legal battles. It was decades of research and development for him to make this a reality. Would the Renaissance have been in the forefront ...leading into the Modern Age with out it?
He did spark a revolution and a book is the foundation for many of the later inventions...and the press combines art and technology.
Great posts everyone and now I am reconsidering my first choice, although still leaning towards Gutenberg.
