First off, no one invented nuclear fission - it was discovered. Devices for creating it and controlling it were invented. The first sustained fission chain reaction is usually credited to Enrico Fermi.

Who built the fission bomb? With so many involved in all the aspects of getting a bomb to work the credit should go to the man directing the effort - Oppenheimer.
