Under current law emergency rooms can't turn away anyone that needs medical attention regardless of ability to pay or citizenship. But it seems to me that if the question of ciitizenship is in question why not treat them and then alert the authorities?

Probably because it makes too much sense. As if its someone others problem? Apathy, a sense of no accountability, un-patriotic. The "melting pot" has desensitized most to the point, they don't probably even know what an American is.
