Unhappy The Andrew Speaker Case

Has anyone been following the story of Andrew Speaker? He's the young attorney from Atlanta with the drug resistant brand of tuberculosis known as XDR-TB who was taken into custody after returning from Europe for a belated honeymoon.

My heart goes out to this young man and I hope for him and his young family he survives this ordeal. I'll also be praying that no one else has contracted this horrible illness.

But on another note, while the press seems only able to focus on holding his responsible for traveling after being diagnosed, I think someone needs to start doing some serious looking into his father in law and some folks at the CDC. I find it extremely suspicious that one of the top microbiologists at the CDC specializing in the spread of tuberculosis and other diseases would have a son-in-law mysteriously contract this untreatable strain of TB and that he wouldn't have been able to give his son in law more specific answers prior to his flying out of the country.

I find it equally suspicious that the CDC would have so little concern about him traveling when he was leaving the country but once gone would suddenly develop so much concern that they slap all these restrictions on him regarding his return. I’m sorry, I know some here will claim I'm just a CT nutcase, but this just stinks of foul play.

These are some of the very issues raised by Neal Boortz on his program today. So, if you are a CT Nut Case so is Boortz. His Conspiracy Theory is that the CDC is playing CYA since they gave this poor guy the wrong information.

I also find it highly coincidental about the father in law's position and the mans illness. I'm surprised that the lefties in here who can make a connection using the most convoluted reasoning known to man will fail to make a possible connection here.

My wife has a aunt that does contract work with CDC. She told me that she can't talk about it but if she was Andrew he should get a lawyer, if they try and make him for any of this.

It will take a while to sort this out. I think that you are not a CT in this case but someone f'up pretty badly here. I know from the very confidential info I get on cases going on over at the big St. Jude Cancer/Disease Center there becomes a hell of a lot of finger pointing in cases like this. It will take time to sort it out.

I'm with MA on this one. There are some things that are too coincidental to be coincidental. Someone should look into what the doctor REALLY thought of his son-in-law. How convenient that he told him to fly out, but then made a big deal of his coming back. Right........

This world has lost it's mind every generation has less and less common sence. They are all responsable and should all get in trouble the cdc for not taking action moraly to tell him strait out you should not risk other people go to colorado, mr. speaker him self that put his honeymoon and or personal pleasures before that of the public, and last for the inspector above all for disregarding an order not to let him back in, so next time there is a criminal or terest alert and they have an ID of said person and this idiot allows him into america because he realy did'nt look dangerous what the hhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeelllllllll is wrong with this picture? They all acted like little 2 yr. old spoiled brats. The freedom we so charish in this country as we all seem to forget does not aford you the right to knowingly endanger the general public.

Not quite accurate 36. The doctors at the CDC told him he was NOT contagious and could go on his European honeymoon. Since he is asymptomatic and feels fine, he saw no reason to cancel the trip. Not his fault.

Maybe the doctor just plain ol' screwed up and said, "eh, you look great, have a good time kid." My bet goes on that.

That could be true but then again he is a lawyer not the most moral of profesions and definately not above lieing to save his own ass.

You'll get no argument from me about lawyers, but the actual records should either back him up or reveal him as a liar. Seems strange to me that the doctor/father-in-law wouldn't have tried to protect his daughter if he thought the guy was contagious. Shouldn't both of them been quarantined from the get go if the guy was dangerous to the health of others?
