Rob..I went to the FAQ page on the link provided by Sam earlier. Just a quick read lead to some questions of my own. Maybe someone can answer them.
1. The claim that Doctors would basically have oversight on what tests others are performing. It says that a Doctor that is ordering more tests than others in his specialty would be policed by them due to the fact he is basically taking more money from the pool. Wouldn't this lead to a Doctor not ordering possibly needed test just so he wouldn't be seen as getting more?
2. There is a statement regarding malpractice insurance rates declining to make up for some lost revenue for the doctor. How and who is going to enforce lower malpractice insurance rates?
3. There is a statement regarding how money is now made by private firms that results from govt. financed research. Isn't this what so many people are clamoring for in the research of embryonic stem-cells? Just like many other areas, private firms will surely benefit from govt financed research.
4. One other thing, just kind of an aside, The statement is made that medical insurance or the lack thereof would no longer be a bargaining chip when talking of employment. I'm just curious how the big unions feel on single-payer since it would seem to take away another piece of their pie. They would seem to lose the advantage of claiming they can get a prospective union member excellent health-care.

"socialized medicine leads to less quality and longer waits for treatment, I know from the experience of being in the VA medical system, which by the way is run by the breaucrates in DC."

>>>Jaysus - you've been brainwashed bigtime, probably by those RNC scare commercials from 1993-94. 40% of the USA doesn't even have healthcare coverage. For those of us who do, it is 2x as expensive as any Western European country or Canada, we have a life expectancy 2 years LESS than Western Europe or Canada, and US hospitals are a filthy mess.

40% of the cost of US healthcare goes to CEOs and shareholders. It's time for them to move on and get real jobs.

I do know that most hospitals already check the number of tests that Docs order. But if the Doc can justify the test he is ok.

This is a very good question, who do you think should regulate this?

Yes private firms will benefit, but some say that unless the goverment helps, research will stop and I don't beleive that. The grants given to teaching hospitals and labs will continue help with reasearch, but some private money should be used.

I am not sure on this one, maybe we can ask other posters on this.

If you are referring to my post, money was mentioned only as wondering where the claims could be substantiated.
Read the link offered by Sam earlier.
I'm not saying I'm for/against the plan. Just that there are some questions not answered.
