Actually it is a dynamite question.
I watched "Two Days In October" this week. It parallels the events during October 17/18, 1967:
- two companies of Black Lions Army division getting slaughtered in a 10-1 ambush that General Westmoreland had them walk right into.
- the first student protest turned violent in the US. This was on the U or Wisc, Madison campus and the police started cracking skulls in non-violent protest against Dow Chemical making napalm gas.
The point I make is the most dedicated and toughest of 1st Sergeants had real trouble through that interview and broke down. He had criticism for anti-war protestors but many questions for Army leadership that threw them into a sure bloodbath. This guy is screwed up, there were several other guys like this interviewed. The other thing is that the Army tried hard to cover this all up and actually one of these soldiers talked back to Westmoreland when the General visited his bedside after that messed up battle. This is a mess when so many contradications are around the guys that actually do the real fighting. This is the kind of stuff that is not thought about very seriously when we go to war and then the guys on the ground pay the price in far more ways than anyone else.
Are we all willing to support these kinds of screw ups that happen over and over?
